I have been reading many posts asserting that if we played certain players, we would be winning. Posts asserting Lingard over DJ. Perry over Williams. I have even read that we need to use Pope,Wiggins and Hightower. The reality is that none of these players would change the fact that our OL, Defensive play and Baxa, are the reason we have lost and will continue to lose. Can anyone deny that if we had a competent OL, a defense that can make key stops and a competent K in Baxa that we would be undefeated? Adding in a Lingard, playing Perry over Williams and maybe some of those other players would have guaranteed we still be undefeated given the alternate reality I proposed but it wouldn’t changed the reality of our situation.

We havent beat a power 5 team with a winning record since Notre dame. Every team we have beat, of the four, the best one was Pitt which finished 7 and 7.

Think about that for a second. Nearly two years since we beat a p5 with a winning record.

We are horrible.

We just lost to the youngest team in the country with a oline as bad as ours.

Youre just making excuses. Typical soft shouldered male.

I get the point. But I think they’re guys in the locker room that want to see players like Lingard and Pope play. Miami has this issue with not playing someone because they skipped instead of walked to class. I joke about it all the time. Patchan wins in the classroom and in life. So coaches play him over a Trevon Hill. Doing all the things right as a student athlete sh**. That plays a factor on a team like it or not.

I guarantee the team in the spring was either Perry or Martell. Then Jarren won because he was a winner off the field also.

Is this post in response to my post? How am I making excuses? My point is our OL play, Defensive play in spots and our poor kicker are the reasons we have lost. Can you refute that? You pointed out that there OL was as bad as ours. Isn’t that an indictment of our defense not being able to exploit them? If so, did I not mention that our defense has been a problem? Soft shouldered male because I deal in reality? Stop the BS

It shows our coaching sucks. If your oline sucks you spread the field with tate and designed qb runs.

If baxa sucks you go for it on 4th and 2 point conversions.

Its all on coaching.

If Perry Starts yesterday I think we would’ve won. I can’t say for sure but the way he gave the offense life I’d like to believe we’d have won. Doesn’t matter though cause we lost 🤷🏾‍♂️

I just Find it how ironic Coach Diaz spent all offseason taking passive aggressive shots at the old offensive staff regime /richt yet the Side of the ball which was expected to be a strong unit has failed us in 3 of our losses vs uf, unc and now va tech. Failed us in the 4th quarter vs uf when they gave up the long pass to Hammond which ended in a td. Gave up 2 tds drives when we needed them the most late in the game under 4 minutes left. I mean **** do they have to get tds every time they are in the redzone, is stopping them for a field goal asking for too much? I mean That has happened consistently vs uf, unc, va tech and even in 1 drive in the redzone vs cmu they gave up a td.

1. No one complained about Jarren started before yesterday.
2. The Pope stuff is silly because he hasn’t been flashing until BC. And when he did, he got injured.
3. A recovering Lingard wouldn’t make a difference with this OL. If he weren’t injured, he would have been getting his reps. Just not sure it would ya e mattered.
4. I believe you will see less of Patchan going forward so that will not be an issue

I started a thread stating we are handicapping ourselves by not doing this, not that we'd be winning.

Some units on the team (OL, kicker) are simply lacking in talent to the point where there's nothing we can do this year other than deal with it. But that doesn't mean we should start Patchan over Rousseau or give Jimmy Murphy snaps over Lingard.

Uhhh.. yes people complained about Jarren and not being able to go vertical.

Pope is a vertical threat and Jarren doesn’t have the arm to hit him in stride.

If Lingard is suited up he is ready to go. A great back can make a difference by hitting the gap quicker

How are you feeling about JW vs. Perry now?

There is no way to justify that loss yesterday.

It was atrocious football.

It has been atrocious all year

On Jarren. I will give you the vertical concern. However, no one was calling for his job.

On Pope. He is a vertical threat but he didn’t flash that threat given limited opportunities last year. Remember, we have a very recent history of freshman receivers flashing and playing early. Coley, Richards and Thomas flashed and played early. Pope is probably the highest WR recruit we have had. And he is a local product. Our coaches have all reason in the world to get him the rock. I didn’t see much separation on any deep routes opportunities last year when we had QB’s with the arm. I finally flashed given an opportunity against Bethune-Cookman and was injured.

On Lingard. We haven’t had consistent holes. When we did DJ, has made it happen. I do believe Lingard can take Some of Cam’s reps because Cam requires some space as I believe Lingard does. But DJ has made plays when there has been little or no blocking. The run for the 2 pt conversion is evidenced as to why’ve DJ has to be featured with this line. Cam and Lingard get tackled short of the goal line on that play. And neither back has done anything to suggest they would have.
