In the 80's and 90's Miami recruited for top recruits with Florida and FSU and all three were top notch at football with lots of depth and loads of talent. I remember when a player got injured at the U his replacement was equal or even better. Things started to change, in 1996 UCF went 1-A, had Culpepper at QB and got noticed nationally.

Meanwhile Miami made South Florida talent stars noticed and recruited nationally, it continues to be recruited nationally by all the top universities depleting the depth the big three had in the 80's.

In 2004 FIU went 1-a, in 2005 South Florida went 1-a, in 2013 FAU went 1-a. In the background recruits that had grade problems went to BC, FL A&M, Stetson and now Jacksonville University.

Is it any mystery that every recruit has become more important, that the squad depth has drastically been diminished. JJ often said their practices far exceeded what they experienced in real games. Is it a mystery as to why we do not have that experience at this time?

On top of that we are a tiny private university without the resources of much of our competition. Our primary selling factor is our professional alumni and the value of U education.

I am not saying coaching is not a factor but quality of depth is certainly significant. I like the way our fabulous alum get involved and the pride there is at the U, unfortunately too many think putting on the Orange and Green with the U on the helmet makes them great, work, dedication and pride makes players. It is still an honor to be part of the U family.

Dude, just stop. None of that has anything to do with losing to the likes of FIU or the 2019 edition of GT.

Talent on the field is NOT the problem.

TBH, I don't think our talent is that good.

However, Manny was on Richt's staff for 3 years. And his 2020 recruiting class isn't looking any better than Richt's classes did.

It’s not a depth issue. It’s a “we miss on the top end every ******* year issue.”

Look at just WR: Cooper, Ridley, Jeudy. All day one guys that bounced.

Recruiting has gotten more difficult not just because there are more close to home FBS options, but also because evaluations have gotten better. Finding the hidden gem is a lot more difficult than is used to be.

My topic was that the extra competition for talent has affected the gator the Noles and the U. All three still get the top starred recruits but high school kids can develop from no stars to 5 stars after they get to college. Take Jimmy Jones, he played basketball as he quit football because his high school coach was a joke. Today Jones would be no stars as Ray Lewis was and recuit-niks would go bananas if they were in a class today. That is my point, we can't take chances on kids that are not already performers.
