Just let Brown and Fletcher do their thing. I know Lyle can break one but he is the closer for when the defense is tired. I know they paid to keep him but those other two guys just get 4-5 yards every single time they touch the ball and they fall forward. The can catch too.

Brown is our best RB.
i think he and fletcher are neck and neck but what i'll say about brown is that the next time i see him go down on first contact will be the first time. just an unbelievable effort runner.

i'm hoping lyle was just shaking the rust off today. it did feel like we should've been feeding fletcher and brown more during lyle's series tonight, but hopefully banking those reps + another week of rest will put him on a good trajectory.

It's possible he was rusty after missing nearly 4 games. He had a couple of successful runs and some not so successful runs. To their credit, FSU made it difficult for any of our backs to run well consistently last night.

I do think Lyle fits best with this team in the two back sets. Fletcher and Brown are better running inside. If Lyle is the single back it's either a giveaway that we're going to run outside, or we're giving him carries inside that would be better given to Fletcher/Brown.

Two back sets have been very effective this year. We hit the flea flicker out of it too. Since we really only have 2 WRs we can count on, hope we feature it a lot more going forward. Doesn't make much sense to me to continue to regularly play 3 WRs if one of them isn't a threat.

Fletcher 12 40 3.3 avg
Brown 8 19 2.4 avg
Lyle 7 18 2.6 avg

The narrative that somehow Lyle didn't play well as compared to our other RB's is kinda silly. Lyle ran as hard as the others up the middle and didn't have too much room. A lot of people gonna be eating crow so get ready.

Florida state did everything they could to make sure they wouldn’t lose because we ground and pounded them to death.

We responded with a vertical passing game using play action.

His contact balance and ability to generate extra yardage after contact is crazy impressive. Plus he’s already the best pass catching back on the roster.

im not saying he’s gonna be this former Canes great, but Brown’s game has some flashes of Edgerin James

none of our RB's had any room because like you say FSU brought it last night to their credit and gave up opportunities to our WR. Singling out a guy with only 7 carries who did the same as the others is kinda silly

none of the RB's played particularly well but brown and fletch got the tough *** yards we needed. Neither have the homerun ability of Lyle but that wasnt needed that night. Beck was on fire. Lyle should never have played. Save him for a different game

Come on you could see he didn’t have the burst. Could be rust or he’s still injured or a little of both.

When he’s in the game you should immediately notice the difference and it wasn’t there.

FSU game plan was to make Beck a passer.. that was obvious.. they did a decent job at stopping the run

I agree completely when he goes in we lose a lot of momentum just like last year against Syracuse when Martinez averaged over 8 yards a carry and then he came in on a couple drives and nothing

Lyle isn't the power back that fits this boring run game. I bet he transfers. Fletcher isn't an NFL RB and will stay another year. Fletcher and Brown again next year, and im good with that.

Didn't help the run game when we opened the game in condensed sets. It just brought everyone into the box.

We had a bit more success when our sets were wider.

The run game also looked sluggish, out of sorts, disjointed (whatever we want to call it) because the passing game was so effective early in the game leading to some quick scores.

It really seems (I don't have numbers to back this up) even dating back to last season, the quick strikes on offense disrupts the flow of our run game. The wrinkle last night where we threw the ball short and horizontal to Lofton acted like a part of our run game and was successful; not sure why we didn't incorporate it more later in the game especially when the offense started to stall
