1) Last night was the worst loss of my 40+ year fandom. Miami was unprepared, listless, poorly coached.... an embarrassing performance. To lose to one of our worst game day coaches, on the hallowed ground of the Orange Bowl, on the anniversary of the Flutie game (I happened to be in the stands for that one), to FIU, is inexcusable.
2) I doubt Manny is fired. I believe he will get one more year. If Manny wants to succeed, significant staff changes need to be made. Enos called quite possibly the worst game I have ever seen. Enos is stubborn, even bizarre, and has no feel for the game. The worst part of Enos is his inconsistency, there is no rhythm to his play calling. He seems to overthink what should be simple. Last night begged for a smash mouth run game, yet we came out throwing.... I could go on but....
3). Organizations get the result they are designed to get. I believe after watching over a decade of mediocre canes football, that the Board and Administration have no real commitment to excellence on the gridiron. Alabama is Alabama because EVERYONE from the Board to the janitor is aligned around Roll Tide on the field. If Manny is fired, he will be the 5th head coach since we were relevant. We have a systemic issue. A lack of alignment.... Remember, back in the 80s, we won despite a lack of administrative alignment around football. Tad Foote was never a huge fan, and was always uncomfortable with how football dominated the persona of the school. I am not sure that kind of success is possible anymore without total alignment. To recreate the 80s isn’t possible without a total machine.
4). Officiating... we seem to play against the refs more than any other team I watch.. Can anyone explain why our kids are mauled with immunity every week? Horrible and demoralizing... yet, we can overcome this if we can answer:
Do we have the desire at the institutional level for national prominence in football?
Does the Board make the systemic changes in Athletics to compete?
Can Manny find quality replacements for the staff if he is on a one year trial next year (anyone remember Coker’s last year)?
It’s going to be an interesting offseason....l
