One thing that has plagued this team about as much as anyting else has been the lack of leadership from the QB position.
Last one being Brock Berlin. But ever since him it's been one unassuming schlep over another.
I had hopes that Golden would bring in a leader at QB but doesn't look like that will happen.
I know he was pretty much stuck with Jacory and Morris and maybe Williams was supposed to be it. Although nothing from what I've seen points to him being one.
From what I've seen from Kaaya and reports out of camp of him not taking command doesn't give me confidence that Kaaya will be the leader this team needs him to be. At least not this year. What we needed on Monday and the past few years was a true QB that knows how to lead and will a team to victory. Sadly we didn't have that qb.
If Heaps has shown any ilk of being that typeQB than hope Al roles with him. The players seem to think that he is.

He just got out of highschool relax. Warren Sapp talked about Ray Lewis as a nervous quit snotty nosed kid when he 1st got here. We see how that turned out. All of our woes are due to the coaching staff right now. You bring in the right man for the job and notice the difference in all the players. Players reflect their coach and that includes their leadership qualities.

Until Monday, qb was the last of worries since 2011... And I refuse to blame Monday's loss on Kaaya... He isn't ready and was blindly overhyped by our fanbase and media without anyone attending and viewing a practice... The kid isn't a bust... Until late in his senior year he was a lesser-heralded recruit... He has loads of potential but as of now he isn't ready... Hopefully Saturday will be a confidence builder...

Kid got here 5 mins ago and he is supposed to be leading!?!?

He was leading his team quite well to a championship in hs....how about giving the true frosh some timeto show his quality on the field of battle before he demands veteran players follow him. Leaders have to bleed with those they want to follow them before they actually follow that leader.

Imo he has a good start on that given his effort as a true freshman on primetime against a good team.

Clueless assumption. :stupid:

Kaaya was playing with a bad Oline, a run game that was stifled, a coach who limited the offense so much he was practically playing with one arm tied behind his back and he STILL balled when he wasn't in 3rd and long. Add in the fact that it was his first ever game on the road in a hostile place against a team we have recent history with. There are a ton of things to be ****ed about but Kaaya isn't one of them. He made nice throws to Walford, that 4th down to Berrios was money, he's gunna learn to hit that throw to Dobard. I LOVED that he tried to take advantage of a scrambling Louisville defense with that quick throw to Coley. I thought he showed some serious toughness and moxy. If anything I came away from this game MORE convinced he will be special.

The overreaction in here is just ridiculous. You honestly expected him to come out and play like Peyton Manning in his first collegiate game.

An away game.

A game in which there were consistently 1-2 opposing players in the backfield.

Dude stood tall in the pocket and delivered some nice passes despite being hit nearly every other throw. Louisville does have some Sunday talent and he Kaaya didn't look completely out of place in his first start. Things will pick up for him.

Anytime someone questions Kaaya's performance...

can we LAY OFF THE KID!!!! GOT ****, HE'S A TRUE FRESHMAN. It's not his fault that his OL was consistently out of position. It's not his fault that the refs blew a too many men on the field and off-sides call on that miscue between he and Coley. It's not his fault that J. Coley refused to put him in a postiion where he could make plays. It's not his fault that we ran 6, count'em, 6 straight run plays to open up the 2nd half. It's not his fault that S. Coley was not fighting to get open. It's not his fault that we continued to call bubble screens. SO FOR GOD'S SAKE, KILL ALLL OF THESE QB THREADS. If you want to trash Golden and J. Coley, fine, but the UL lost was not Kaaya's fault.

Useless post...One game and your ready to throw in the towel...How can you possible call yourself a diehard CANE FAN

It seems that the team may be turning on Golden. If so, that would put Kaaya in a difficult position. How does a freshman lead a team of upperclassmen who are against the staff that showed faith in that freshman, and gave him his chance to start? How does he lead in that situation? Rebel vs the staff? Tell the jrs and srs to "trust the process?" Another sh!!ty position that the staff put him in.

The OP's point is legit but I think pointing to the fact that Ryan Williams got injured is the more appropriate example. If Williams was healthy I think the whole game would have gone down differently.

Cant fault a kid who was at his high school prom last May for not being a leader of college aged men, especially in his first game.

I'm not faulting the kid. He played like a typical freshman would have.
We were told that this kid is special. Not typical. Well I would have just loved to have seen any signs of leadership traits.
I didn't. Which is fine for all the reasons some have mentioned. If thats the expectation that he will be your typical freshman then don't talk to me about him being special.

And if he couldn't be a leader of men as a freshman then put in a QB that can. All signs pointed to Heaps being it. Players even felt so.
There is something to be said about having experience and leading a team that goes beyond being tall and having a better arm.
