I know it was mentioned before, maybe on the gameday board...but it really has ALWAYS bugged me....the set up on punt team and the use of the three up back/protectors...

I never liked it at all.

That being said...

We use it, and the players on it is a complete joke.....

Realize why that kick was returned....If a kid can ever break the gunners, or first wave its a wrap...

We have freaking Earl Moore, and Hunter Knighton on the units..Last year it was Corey King. Just watch Earl Moore on that return (you will get a laugh)...I comment Jaquan Johnson for his hustle to stop that td....
But that unit...needs more speed bad.....if your going to have up backs still wy not put LB's or a TE or something....got **** Earl Moore?.

But we know who coaches specials.

We use earl more in there to create the illusion of an offensive lineman who could block on the punter keeper. That way the other team has to play us honest and respect Vogel's legs.

You honestly can't even explain half the stuff this staff chooses to do. They're a new level of retarded/ignorant.

He must be afraid of his starters getting hurt.

Ask yourself, "what would Jimmy Johnson do?" Al will do the opposite.

I remember one year we got the November nole game in Tally with a total of 1.5 yards in punt returns. Not Per return but total yards. Heck, I think lost that game but that sat always amazed me. Al taking on ST coach at THE U might be the biggest act of pride he has ever done. Like his defense, he can't coach ST either.

Wasn't that mostly because Benjamin muffed a punt that went back like 20 yards?

It should be guys like Standish Dobard, Chad Thomas, and Kamalu. Guys who are big, but still can run.

I've brought this up before - it's garbage football.

Your 3 upbacks are slow OL/DT that never play. Combine them with your punter and snapper and you have 5 guys that are absolutely useless in trying to cover a punt. God forbid if your gunners whiff and the returner has all the room in the world because Tyree St. Louis is downfield trying to break down a 175 pound speedster. Just makes no sense. It's a big 10 approach to football. who are they blocking? DBs or LBs? SMH

Btw, check out other teams that use tihs formation - I saw a few on Saturday and I didn't see one use 3 sloths as upbacks. they were either TEs, FBs, or something similar. We are the only team that fields a guy that almost died a year or so ago, a perennial 4th string DT and a true freshman LT.

It should be all the bigger defensive backs and your fast linebackers like Grace. They can keep a block for long enough to let the punter do his thing and burn down the field and contain the return man. The gunners should be the fastest players on the team. Doesn't matter their position (WR or D Back). Andre Johnson used to make big hits on special teams. Speed is key. Thats why IMO, our special teams have been run over these last few years.
