The Athletic was speculating on Saban’s successor. Mentioned Dabo first then Mario:

“Here’s another name to keep in mind: Mario Cristobal. Miami’s new coach left a strong impression during his four years in Tuscaloosa as offensive line coach (2013-16). He’s won big at Oregon, and if he can turn around the Hurricanes and the timing is just right, don’t be surprised if the Tide put the full-court press on him. Of course, Miami is home for Cristobal, too, which could complicate matters, especially if he returns the Canes to national prominence.”

Great to see the respect he gets. Josh Pate and Finebaum have both alluded to this also.

I've wondered a little about Dabo's appeal of late. He obviously built a fantastic program, but I'd be a little skeptical if I was a Clemson fan about the oc and dc hires. What if Clemson struggles a bit again? Perception is so often built on what-have-you-done-lately that I wonder what his appeal will be in the next couple years if Clemson doesn't get back to its Lawrence/Watson years. I can envision folks crediting his success to Venables and the two coordinators both of whom went on to HC gigs.

Hard for me to picture Mario leaving if he does what he needs to get us competitive again to make himself the desired candidate. But everyone has a price, and Bama would be the place most likely to both blow coach salaries out of the water and have the infrastructural appeal. I could even see them shooting their shot at Kirby first also.

I think it has been dabo for years now though.

No one wants to follow a legend. **** even Gene Stallings first turned down the Bama job when Bryant retired.

Bama will promote from within (O’Brien or Goulding) and follow the path that UNC (Dean Smith), Duke (K), Michigan (Schlem…), etc etc

IMO and maybe others as well, I think Mario has seen what could have been with Howard, Jimmy, and Butch. Those guys win multiple NC's had they stayed but the NFL, and in the case of Howard, the(original) USFL came calling. I dont think Mario goes anywhere and does what those guys didnt and sticks around Miami Bill Snyder-like. Well maybe not that long but you get the idea😂

1. I can see Dabo staying at Clemson; he's got his schtick down pat and they love him over there.

2. We all know Mario to Alabama is nonsense that comes from the same writers who thought he'd never leave Oregon and Phil Knight for 'a derelict program like Miami'.

Miami has the best pure passer in CFB and we're going to surprise a lot of people this season.

Other than Dabo and Mario, who else would be a Bama target?

Dabo was a WR at Bama, so returning to his alma mater is reasonable. Mario is at his alma mater and I have no idea why the logic exists that says he'd leave that and his hometown for Bama.

Alabama has been very successful lately, which means they have few limiting beliefs. They're not going to have the inferior mindset that 'no way Mario will leave his alma mater.' If they hold Mario in high regard, they take that shot, even if he says 'no, thanks.'

Naw he will be done 2-3 years tops. ESPN will bend over backwards to have him join Gameday.

Wouldnt surprise me if they won it this year, he retires and blames it on NIL ruining the game.
The guy loves coaching. Paterno and Bowden both coached into their early 80s. Snyder from K State coached until he was like 78.

Saban is a healthy little sonbitch and wants to make sure there's no way in **** anyone can ever top his legacy. I can easily see him get to 80.
