Potential Portal LBs

With all due respect to that kid, a 5’11 220 pound FCS backer does nothing for us IMO.

I’m not optimistic about the LB room changing much, honestly. A WR? S? DT? Feel much better about those spots but not LB. Unless we tamper & magically poach someone from a contender.

Our track record with those positions in the portal is startling.

Agreed, praying Beck & offensive performance can land us a pass catcher and Etheridge/Harris can get us a DB

….and of course $$ supplementing all of that.

Think we should be trying to lure a LB into the portal, not just hope someone enters. Like look at programs with no CFP hope and try to get their top LB to enter. Unfortunately I don't believe there are that many good LBs that are like clear upgrades to Wes that aren't already at top programs...

Unfortunately I don't think we are going to end up with a LB1 - due to no supply. I think the staff likes Wes too much, and Between Popo, Pruitt, Wiley, Hayes, they probably think one will step up. I think we probably end up taking an Alderman level LB again.

- Kyle Louis from Pitt.
- Shad Banks from TCU.

- Red Murdock from Buffalo
- Jasen Henderson from Old Dominion
- Jordan Pollard from SDSU

Could probably try to get one of them or something, idk....

Doesn't Pitt have another good lb as well?

If we truly lack a tonesetter or guys who play with an edge this portal LB add should epitomize that. Not expecting some all world addition. But find me someone who isn't a massive liability in coverage who can crack a rb or wr when given the chance. If Hetherman is truly the goods he can coach up the flaws.

I’m optimistic about the LB room because we’ll tamper & poach someone from a contender.

Would my former English professor allow me to call this paraphrasing?

Generally agree with your post but the above part, I really hope you’re wrong. How’d liking Damari Brown too much work out for us last offseason? Plus having a new DC who is also the LB coach gives him a lot of leverage to demand an upgrade to at least force competition at that group. If Hetherman isn’t bringing in a true LB1 I will be disappointed.

I know I know, be ready to be disappointed.
