Potential coaching changes

Worst case scenario:
They'll win 10-11 games next year and everyone will say 2018 was just a fluke. It will take a few more 10-11 seasons for a change to be made.

That was with coaches on half the salary that Richt gets.
That's irrelevant. We're not talking about whether or not Richt is a good coach. That poster said it's hard to watch the program die. If you think this season is some kind of debacle, then you just weren't watching since 2001.

I see what you're saying: when you compare this season with our performance for the last 15 years, its the same as any other year where we under-perform. But you're missing my point. I'm saying we DID decline this year-- it is not the same as we've been doing for 15 years... it's worse. This season IS a debacle because of how much Richt is paid. If you upgrade a car from a v6 to a v8 and it still goes the same speed, you don't say "Oh well it was always this slow" you say "Wtf happened, I added a better engine and nothing changed, so what got worse???" You don't pay a coach $2M a year more to do the same job. We all agree that Richt > Golden so we must be declining somewhere else.

Honestly, don't expect any changes. Rick is a made man with his new contract, he has the juice to tell Blake that he isn't going to listen to a bunch of rich pricks tell him who needs to be on his staff.

He isn't getting an OC because he wants to call plays. Isn't firing his son (of course). Isn't firing Searles because Rick knows it will set a precedent that he will cave under pressure. Going to see the same staff next year.

So you agree Richt is not a good coach, then, correct?

I think the difference is when we were losing like we were in the recent past, the HC wasn't making 4 million dollars a year,, nor were we shelling out the resources like we are right now.

Imagine for example if UM had not been cheap and had allowed Randy Shannon to hire Kevin Sumlin for OC like he wanted instead of the sorry jokers he ended up with.

The University decided to finally shell out money foor facilities and coordinators and a HC, and the results are about the same.

Wait, wait, wait......you're not going to just post this and we act like this wasn't just posted. When and where did Randy want Summlin as his OC? This is literally my first time hearing this, chief.

Before Nix. Sumlin was willing to come but they couldn't get the salary numbers right to get him away from Oklahoma, and this was waaaaaaay before the days of the million dollar coordinators.

How is that the worst you can come up with?

How about this:

10 We go 6-6.
20 Despite "seeing signs of improvement", Richt is forced to fire at least one guy and hire an OC.
30 That OC agrees totally with Richt's offensive philosophy and is basically a mouthpiece for Richt to still call plays.
40 After losing by 30 to fsu the following year, Richt gets fired mid-season.
50 We make another half-*** hire.
60 Goto 10

At least at 6-6 I dont get my hopes up. 10-11 wins and the few losses will be excused for 5 more years. Then we get to 50 in your spot on pseudocode.

I want to win it all right now, but I'm a realist. I'll gladly settle for a few years of 10+ wins. At that point, we've cemented our status as being "back". Richt might get luck from there, but more likely it's just easier to get whatever coach we want. A true savage is going to see how close Richt has gotten and know he can do better.

Not only don't I think 10 wins is worst case, I think it's best case. Even when I was still cool with Richt I wasn't expecting a NC out of him. I expected him to return us to winning and respectability so the next guy could win us some ships. If Richt can win more games, I'm ok with him staying a few more years. I just don't think he'll do that.
