While Gattis did open the playbook (which surprised me), the pass plays are not going to work all season. No one is open. WRs showed no effort to fight for balls. Routes take too long to develop. The players are too slow, and they can't block. The WR corps on this team (except Restrepo) is an FCS quality corps. Not a single draft pick/UDFA. How many drops today. At least 6 or 7.
The offensive line were consistently giving TVD 6, 7 even 8 seconds to throw. Can't really complain about them today.
Running backs gave it their all too. I'd like to see Knighton get more touches as the season goes on but. Parrish dropped a critical 3rd down that he would've taken down to the 5.
Tight ends continue to be underutilized. Mallory pushed through a scary head/neck injury but the guy is incapable of blocking. He used to get open deep down the field. Not in this offense.
TVD needs a Lashlee offense. He did have a few bad throws but he's being set up to fail by the coaches. We know what he's capable of. Gattis, and by proxy Mario are ruining him.
The defense played well enough to easily win tonight. They need to cause turnovers tho. And I still don't understand the rotation at LB. Just put the best players in. Not even close to being fast enough on D. Not an infusion of speed throughout the whole team.
Special teams were Special Ed. They just can't come up clutch. Muffed punt, allowing a block, missing a FG, not recovering the ATM muff, lining up in the backfield. Everything was wrong and it caused us to start with a long field on every drive.
I think one of the biggest problems is the football IQ of alot of these players. The game is too fast for them, and too much for them to handle mentally. They are guys who jumped on a Manny Diaz D1 offer and have no business here.
Gattis and the playbook need to be addressed ASAP. I think the calls were actually pretty good, but the route trees of the plays needs a ground up rework. Game should've been a 24-13 victory.
Also. For whatever reason, only our impact starters get hurt/injured. Can't make it up.
