For the second week in a row, we've pulled out a hard-fought OT victory. There's no reason why today's game should've been as close as it was, but a win is a win. Here's some thoughts on our performance:
  • That was about as rough of a game as possible for TVD. On those INTs he had all the time in the world and still made terrible throws. Not to mention we got very very lucky on that last potential INT. UVA probably wins if they pull that one out. It's true that TVD is playing with some physical limitations (as @Cribby has stated), but his decision-making really makes you wonder what's going on. Shannon Dawson needs to go back to the drawing table and create some new concepts that can get TVD into some type of rhythm. He's ultimately a streaky QB that's either scorching hot or bitterly cold.

  • It's been said here by a few people, but this offense looks more like a Mario offense week-by-week. Someone in the building needs to tell him to back off and let Dawson do his job because we're becoming very predictable on offense.

  • Mark Fletcher is the man. What a run to end the game. He's going to be an elite RB here, especially with the line that's being build. Props to Ajay Allen for a tremendous hurdle and run and to Parrish who was definitely banged up but got us a big first down.

  • Cam McCormick had a nice first down catch and did what he does in the blocking game. Would be nice to involve him a bit more.

  • Our WRs were hobbled by TVD's bad play, but produced when we needed them to. Colbie Young only had one catch going into the 4th. That's a problem, we need to scheme him open and make him a focal point on this offense.

  • I can see why Tyler Harrell isn't getting a lot of burn at WR. He completely bungled that kick return.

  • Our DL did a **** of a job today, especially considering that UVA was manhandling them on every play. UVA was holding on just about every other play, and there wasn't a single flag thrown on them all game. Another abysmal showing from ACC Officials, but we beat them two weeks in a row.

  • LB's did their job for the most part. They got the stops we needed against a stingy OL and mobile QB.

  • Tough day for the secondary. Kam had the game-changing INT, but we got slanted to death consistently. More missed tackles than usual too. UVA's OC did a good job of going up-tempo and neutralizing our advantage on the DL.

  • Andres Borregales is the man at kicker. He was absolutely crucial to our win, as he has been in many other games, and he is a Top 5 kicker in the country hands down. We are very very lucky to have such an automatic kicker.

  • Give our defense props, they were on the field for more than 80 plays. In years past they would've folded, but not they're a strength on this team.

  • We're bowl-eligible at 6-2, which is an accomplishment considering last year. We've got four games coming up: NCST, FSU, Louisville, and BC. We should beat NCST and BC. We get Louisville at home, which will be a tough-as-**** game, and we're gonna be decent-sized dogs at FSU. All in all, my original prediction of 8-4/9-3 is looking pretty good. We could definitely go 9-3, but 8-4 looks more likely at the moment.

Also, on the Mario call to go into OT, my initial impression is that it was a bad choice. Three TOs and near 30 seconds is enough to try something. However, and this says a lot about what Mario thinks of TVD right now, he made the right call to take it into OT.

Last thing we needed was to give TVD the ball and have him throw another back-breaking int. With our OL and run game the odds were better to pull It out in OT than to risk it with an interception prone QB down the wire.

Maybe they've decided to become more conservative because their QB situation has absolutely collapsed? Even still guys are wide open, a competent QB makes this offense look a lot better than it has been

But ultimately that's on them too for not getting a transfer in here and relying on that headcase

I don’t understand how someone can watch the game and say “Mario needs to back off and let Dawson do his thing.”

TVD 30 attempts sub 50% completions… 2 picks a 3rd one dropped…

And you want more of that and think we’ll win?

When Mario did “back off” Dawson (which I don’t believe he’s that over him.” He called a run play instead of a knee which Mario has taken all the embrassmdnt for

It's a double-edged sword. I think TVD bolts for Bama or another school if we had decided to bring in another QB in the portal. Now that we've got some potential with Emory and some decent QB recruits coming in, there's no reason why we shouldn't move on.

We're not incorporating much motion into this offense compared to the start of the season. We're also running a bunch of tight formations ala last year. We're not doing anything pre-snap to confuse defenses or keep anyone off balance. I do believe Mario has gotten more involved in this offense, it's his m.o.

I would just say in the past few years these are the games we find a way to lose. It was good to see us pull it out.

Think the idea that MC is "getting involved" in an offense that has been hovering around Top 10 in many categories is moronic.

It appears that TVD's decision making of late has hindered Miami. Dawson seems to short circuit against defense that aren't aggressive.

I knew the spread for today's game was too big. For whatever reason, UVA plays Miami (or Miami plays UVA) close every year.

There was zero juice on either side of the ball, especially in the first half.

It's looking more bro style by the week. Were not playing well on offense but if not for one of the biggest coaching plunders in college history this team would be 7-1 after 8 games which is a massive improvement from last season.

I like that you’re even willing to predict any game at this point. I’d say we’re as likely to beat NCST as fsu. Or lose every game. There’s literally no way to tell at this point.
And regarding the refs, I’ll give them a pass this week as they only flagged us twice which has to be a frickin record.

It is. 6-2 is already an improvement. Ultimately think we finish 8-4, which is good improvement from 5-7. But 9-3 really would be a **** of a way to close out the season, with a chance at 10 wins in the bowl game. That'll require a W against FSU or UL.

Theoretically, we should be able to beat NCST and BC. Could definitely lose, but we're good enough to win those games.

Before the season I always thought 8-4 would be a good season for us. If we can go 8-4 and win a bowl game to get to 9-4 and pair it with a Top 10ish recruiting class I would consider this season a massive success

Would be a huge success, especially with the bowl win. That's a four W increase from the previous year, and major momentum going into 2024.

Cant blame Mario for not getting a transfer QB in. Did everyone forget that BAMA tampered and tried to poach TVD? Yes he's gone to complete dog**** but lets not forget he was considered a Top 5-10 QB coming into the season. Who the **** would transfer in to compete with him for playing time? Lol

I don't expect that wit Mario.. he inherited a competent QB and we see what he has developed.. we were told it would happen and it has come true..

We know what Mario is about, we just got to accept it..

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives.
