Recruits:
Justin Smith-OF
Undrafted
Justin Smith is a 2014 OF/3B with a 6-2 205 lb. frame from St Johns, FL who attends Bartram Trail HS. Large frame, physical build, wide set broad shoulders, good present strength. Moves well for his size, solid outfield athleticism with good arm strength, accurate throws in outfield workout. Spread stance in the box, big time raw power, plus strength at contact, would hit for massive power with more incorporation of lower half, quick strong hands. Showed good plate coverage against higher velocity fastballs in game at-bats, showed contact oriented approach in games but has tools to hit for power. Good student. Verbal commitment to Miami.

Carl Chester-OF
Drafted 38th round by the Brewers
Chester isn't as polished a hitter as his high school teammate and fellow Draft prospect Tate Blackman, but has enough tools to intrigue scouts anyway. He stands out most for his well-above-average speed, which helps him both offensively and defensively. At his best, Chester uses his short line-drive stroke to spray balls into the gaps so he can use his speed to his advantage. But he was inconsistent this spring and his swing had a tendency to get long. Though he doesn't have much power now, scouts believe his strong lower half will allow him to develop more. Chester, a Miami recruit, covers ground well in center field and gets good reads on balls. His speed and defense will allow teams to be patient as he works to develop as a hitter. From mlb.com

Carl Chester is a 2014 OF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Longwood, FL who attends Lake Brantley HS. Slender medium athletic build, some present strength, lots of room to fill out. Quick twitch athlete, very light on his feet, may be fastest player in 2014 class, 6.28 in the 60. Easy outfield actions, very good arm strength with on line carry. Right handed hitter, unusual stance and approach, exaggerated back leg bend and inside the ball approach, fast hands and has present bat speed, whippy barrel with surprising gap power, tends to stay over back side, most contact hard to the opposite field but showed ability to turn on the ball as well, hitting talent stands out but will be a challenge to future hitting coaches. Very disruptive on the bases, plays the game with energy. Verbal commitment to Miami. Selected to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Keven Pimentel-RHP/3B
Undrafted
Keven Pimentel is a 2014 RHP/3B with a 6-3 215 lb. frame from Wading River, NY who attends Shoreham-Wading River HS. Big strong athletic build, fairly mature physically. Leg raise delivery, big hand separation, long fast arm action, 3/4's to high 3/4's arm slot, good lower half use, some effort on release. Steady low 90's fastball, topped out at 94 mph, ball gets on the hitter quickly with sharp downhill plane, overpowered hitters with his fastball. Sharp breaking slider flashes plus at times, hard spin and late action, still developing feel for change up. Around the zone with all pitches and can get away with the middle of the plate due to raw stuff. Good student, verbal commitment to Miami. Selected to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

John Jones-C/OF
Drafted 39th round by the Twins
John Jones is a 2014 C/OF with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Orlando, FL who attends Orangewood Christian HS. Medium athletic build with good present strength. Short quick defensive actions behind the plate, stays compact with simple and efficient mechanics, accurate throws, aggressive game thrower, 1.95 best pop time. Switch-hitter, better balance and swing mechanics right handed, pull approach with good strength, line drive swing plane, good bat speed. Low hand hitch start left handed, tends to pull off and allow the barrel to drag, flashes bat speed. Good student, signed with Miami.

Brian Gonzalez-LHP
Drafted 3rd round by Baltimore
Most likely will sign

Jesse Lepore-RHP/INF
Undrafted
Jesse Lepore is a 2014 RHP/MIF with a 6-4 195 lb. frame from Beverly HIlls, FL who attends Trinity Catholic HS. Strong athletic build, good present strength. Initial slow paced delivery, accelerates through balance point hard to the plate, short arm action, over the top release, hides the ball well and has deception. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, mostly straight. curveball with some 11/5 depth, some developing feel for a change up, mixes his pitches and has an idea how to pitch. Has been notably consistent with his stuff at 10+ PG events over the past two years. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Miami.

Kirvin Moesquit-SS
Drafted Round 36 by the Twins
Kirvin Moesquit is a 2014 SS/OF with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Deerfield Beach, FL who attends Highlands Christian Academy. Medium frame, lean compact athletic build. Switch hitting middle infielder with good all around athleticism. Quick hands and good bat speed from both sides of the plate, showed more power from the left side, can drive the ball from both sides, more of a contact approach right handed. Swung the bat well in games and impressive 60 yard dash times translated well to in-game speed. Quick feet defensively, good balance, solid arm strength, good middle infield actions. Good student. Verbal to Miami.

Luke Spangler-LHP
Undrafted
Luke Spangler is a 2014 LHP/OF with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Cape Coral, FL who attends Cape Coral HS. Loose slender athletic build, some developing strength. Easy well paced delivery, full arm circle, extended high 3/4's release, loose fast arm, clean release. Mid 80's fastball, topped at 87 mph, will turn over 2-seamer at 82 mph, big downer curveball, good spin and some bite, has feel for his change up. Very projectable arm, going to throw much harder in future with added strength. Very athletic outfielder, 6.88 runner, strong arm with plus accuracy, easy actions. Left handed hitter, short swing from wide base, keeps hands tight, good bat control, pull approach, squares up well. Enough tools to be a legit two-way prospect but brighter mound future. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Miami.

Michael Mediavilla-LHP/1B
Drafted 40th round by the Reds
Michael Mediavilla is a 2014 LHP/1B with a 6-4 230 lb. frame from Hialeah, FL who attends Mater Academy Charter. Big strong physical build, looks like he's firmed up his body this off season. High hand delivery, smooth clean arm action, high 3/4's slot, tends to keep lower half closed too long and not get fully open on release. Fastball topped at 88 mph, have seen up to 91 mph, mostly straight with good downhill angle. Nice change up with good fade and proper arm speed. Tended to slow arm on curveball, needs to let it go for a power spin and break. Right handed hitter, short swing for his size, line drive approach, consistent mid-field contact, handles the barrel well, has the strength for power should he want it. Smooth defensive actions at first base. Signed with Miami.

Nick Bottari-C
Undrafted
Cant find any real info on him from scouts.

Peter Crocitto-1B
Undrafted
Peter Crocitto is a 2014 1B with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Palm City, FL who attends South Fork HS. Strong compact build, fairly mature. Right handed hitter, spread stance, simple swing approach, moves into contact, front side hitter, loose line drive swing, solid mid field contact, sees ball well, gap type power, polished hitter. Limited to first base defensively. Good student, verbal commitment to Miami.

Devin Meyer-RHP
Undrafted

Ryan Alvarez-OF
Undrafted

Only 1 recruit looks to sign an 3-4 guys look to have immediate roles here either pitching to providing depth. Here's my thoughts on next years lineup.

C-Zack Collins
1B-David Thompson
2B-Sebastian Diaz
SS-Brandon Lopez
3B-Johnny Ruiz
LF-Jacob Heyward
CF-Carl Chester
RF-Willie Abreu
DH-Ricky Eusebio

Weekend Rotation:
Friday-Derik Beauprez
Saturday-Thomas Woodrey
Sunday-Danny Garcia
Mid-week-Keven Pimentel
Closer-Bryan Garcia

We will need some young guys to come in an give us depth in the bullpen an if they do we should have another good pitching staff. If everyone progresses like they should with being a year older and everyone takes that next step we should be a great hitting team next year.

I mean... you don't want your kids to go in the first 5 rounds, or even top 10 rounds, lest you lose them, but it doesn't seem like MLB respects this class. Tons of kids completely undrafted and the rest in the 38th round+ or so outside of Gonzalez.

Smith and Chester are top 5-10 round talents. Price tag was too high for both.

Nice. That's what I like to hear.

We'll have at least one freshman in the weekend rotation in my mind and Smith is our top recruit with huge power potential. He'll find his way into the lineup.

The lack of high draft picks is more due to their price tags. I'm excited about the arms we're bringing in. Adding quite a bit of velocity, many of whom will play a role immediately.

I guess we could see Chester play CF and possibly lead off? What happens with Eusebio? Abreu plays RF and possibly DH some. LF is open for either Heyward or Justin Smith maybe? I think Collins may have to catch to open that DH spot for Smith. Ruiz to 2B and the South Carolina/JUCO transfer at 3B?

I can say this, as an Orioles fan, we are very concerned that Gonzalez will not sign and will end up in Coral Gables. Win, Win for me though.

Stick to what you know best: sucking ****.

Outfield looks strong with Abreu So, Ricky Jr, Heyward So, Chester Fr, Barr RS-So (Scout close to team said he put something like 30 pounds of weight on after surgery with gabe), Smith So. Speed will not be missing at top of order with Chester/Barr/Ricky setting the table for Collins/Thompson/Abreu/Smith/Heyward. Infield will be solid with JC transfer 3rd/2nd, Lopez SS, Ruiz 2nd/3rd, Thompson1B/3rd, Barr 1B, and newcomer Crocitto 1B. Good choices for DH. It's all going to come down to who can get on base and hit!
