So with all the infinite wisdom these young fellas have that they are entitled to everything. These mid season fools enter the portal and walk away from the NIL money just for doing minimal social network stuff? So no team to play more on that you think you should and you walk away from “free” money? Not hey I can’t play anywhere anyway. Might as well use the training I have available to me. Use the facilities. Use the nutritionist.
Yeah that sounds about right. Smfh.

The money the kids are walking away from is not much. What maybe $500 to $1k, What makes less sense is that they think leaving the team makes them more attractive to others because they are available now. Its the opposite. Other schools don't want left overs that quit.
I’d have taken every dollar offered to me in college. **** a hundred dollars was a lot to me when I was broke

U do understand in order for them to keep using that training, facilities and the rest it also means they have to give up a year of eligibility right? Quitting midseason doesn't make much sense unless the coach refuses to redshirt you.

After thinking about it would rather see them enter mid season than half as s it on the practice field and be cancers in the locker room.

Very likely that teams encourage or at least welcome portal folks to leave early. Maybe not all, but those who mope around and tend to be a pain in the ***.

Mid season means they Quit on the team and their teammates. They are not getting picked up this year. To me it’s a bad look if I were a coach searching the portal next year. Who wants a player who quits mid season

They're just looking to get a jump on the competition, those who will enter after them.

As for what a coach will think when they explore who's available, it's simple. Can this player help my team. That's the first thing they'll look at. If they can do that, they'll overlook the rest unless someone is full of baggage.

I don't like it, but I'm not going to get all caught up in labels or feelings. You leave the team, you quit on it. It's that simple and it doesn't matter the timing. It isn't an indictment that they're a **** individual, just that it wasn't working out where they were.

I should also add that not everyone's reason is the same for leaving.

Some have a super stud player playing in front of them and in the worst of those scenarios, that player is younger.

Some just want a fresh start.

Some think they're better than they are and think they should be playing.

Some realize they aren't cut out for this level and actually just want to get snaps (even if it's a lower level) somewhere in their final days of playing.

Some hate their coaches I'm sure.

There's all kinds of possible reasons. Some leave for the wrong reasons while some leave for the right ones. Some will find redemption elsewhere. Some should look at their educational opportunities and roll with that, but won't.

Maybe I am misinterpreting the OP, but I don't think it was directed at Canes. Spencer Rattler has 7-digit deals, and he hit the portal. Those deals are going to start to have provisions that give an out to the sponsor, and I wouldn't be surprised if the payments are set up to be on the back end of each season.

I like it, doesnt give our corches a chance to play scrub players out of some type of loyalty or whatever the **** they rationalize in their head.. Jennings was still stealing reps, I wasnt as hard on Gurvan as others but he didnt develop and was still getting some reps against slot guys and getting cooked.. When they bounce they remove even the small chance of corching happening and the young guys finally get a chance..

What have we really lost between Pope, Wiggins, Gurvan and Jennings? Now if young freshman start bouncing then yea it can be a problem
