Okay everyone, in the interest of trying to de-clutter the board, I'm gonna try and get everyone to post their thoughts on Richt in this thread. So any thoughts on if he's the best man for the job, if he's "soft", if he's an elite coach, etc. should be posted here. After say, 30 minute or so, I'm going to start deleting all the cyclical back-and-forth posts about Richt that appear on the front page.

I will also create separate polls for Mullen, Butch, and Schiano. Let's try to keep the discussion about their pros/cons limited to those threads.

Note - if there is legit info about the candidates and the current search, I will NOT delete it.

I'll start the ball rolling:

Mark Richt

Pros - Proven statistical record of sustained success in a major conference, ties to Miami, brings instant "gravitas" to the position

Cons - May be burned out, could never win the "big one" at UGA, too "nice" for the job?

Too soft and we just got rid of a soft coach. He will win the coastal because it sucks and he is much better coach than Al. He might beat FSU once or twice(even Randy did that) but he will not bring us an NC.

I don't buy the "too nice" bit. The guy is not afraid to get his hands dirty in the recruiting game (e.g. $ony, et al) and from all accounts, I think he basically told Pruitt to fvck his own face this past year.

As for his coaching, I talked to a big UGA fan at work recently and he told me that UGA's best years the past 10 years have been when Richt did a bulk of the playcalling. Said that as a CEO type, Richt is not great, but as a playcalling/game planner, he's very good. TIFWIW.
