I feel like Ed Reed, "I'm hurt dog" but rather 'I'm ****ed dog,' this has been coming for a while. This is poetic justice, the most embarrassing U loss since the Canes lost to the University of Tampa ( yep the University of Tampa fielded a football team back in the 1960's and 70's) in 1970. And its up there with the FAMU loss in 79 and the Maryland comeback in 84 and the Clemson drubbing; IN THE SITE OF THE OLD ORANGE BOWL. Poetic justice indeed the old stadium got the last laugh.
The irony is the University administration has been pushing back on coaches dating back to Jimmy's time, even though the U was winning and gaining notoriety and fame ---which incidentally the school benefited from academically and financially--- they wanted the coaches to dial it back a little. Seems every administration was on the coaches, until the U was struggling during probation. Then after they became successful again and it was back to the same old same old, win but make sure the natives are in check. They were serious about it that they refused to pay Butch what was his due.
And they selected coach after coach with the direction to keep the program under control not --win mind you---but keep the kids in check. And Randy and Golden may have kicked off the team or suspended almost as many folks as they recruited.
So they succeeded and wound up on probation anyway after Randy but they got a dialed back team. Now they got another incompetent, but this time phony coach who they thought wouldn't embarrass them. But Manny did and they got ATTENTION BROUGHT THEM ANYWAY LOL but THIS TIME AS THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD.
Just wish they had not taken us fans down with them. I can't stand the fact that the folks (including many of the refs we face) who hate us are getting a great big old laugh tonight. Yes after 53 years of watching. listening to and following Canes football I am the most upset I have ever been! But this was a kind of justice.
