Patchan is a big key

Assuming they line up the same way, Patch backs up DJax. Backups at DE are very important considering how much we rotate guys. So yeah, he's key.

Joe Jack
Garvin
DJack
Possibly Rousseau

All in front of him. I don’t see how the 5th DE is “ key” on any defense... if those 4 all stay healthy... like I said he’ll get 10-15-20 snaps a game. Let’s hope he creates havoc on those

Again, this is assuming where they line up but based on last year, Patch is DJax's backup at LDE. You can't look at them ignoring where they line up. Also, from what I've seen in practice to now, Rousseau is at RDE, IIRC.

You clearly haven't read the thread. I'll paraphrase. He's important this year. He's CRITICAL next year. This thread is more so about next year than this year. Yes, he's a backup this year. But there's only 5 DEs on the roster, and it's almost certain that 2 of them are gone next season. That leaves 3 DEs plus true freshmen for next season....Patchan being 1 of those 3. If Patchan can't play, it's a big problem for next year. So it's absolutely imperative he proves he can play and stay healthy this season.

I bet you a dollar he still doesn't get it.

I hope he becomes a contributor, his get off is exceptional... hope he stays healthy
move to TE says a lot about this dude as a team mate and player. due to scholie limitations
the guy stepped up... no complaining just worked

Patchan is exactly the kind of player you want for depth with the hope that he can me an impactful player / starter before his career is done.

This is what I assumed.

SDE: DJax/Patchan
WDE: JJax/Garvin/Rousseau

Not only do I think JJax may lack the strength to be an effective SDE, but I think you neutralize his playmaking abilities. He is a disruptive pass rusher. It's one of those good problems that him and Garvin play the same position. Maybe move JJax over to SDE on obvious passing downs, but that's about it.

I am surprised to hear that Patchan can't keep the weight on. All I could find with a quick google search was a Herald article from last August saying he was 6'6" 240. That's definitely on the light side for SDE.

Patchan has had real trouble adding weight. As a result, he’s too light to fill Chad’s role of setting the edge to stop the run.

So, I see him as a rotational player inserted to use his speed and quickness to pressure the QB. 10-15 plays per game.
Exactly what he said. In past years he was waking up twice a night to eat. Just doesn't have the natural build to keep 260 lbs. on. If he can fill a role as a passing down specialist he can really help the team.

Not the kind of "insider" information I was expecting when I signed up, but okay. This sounds like something only his mother or girlfriend would know. I don't even...did you...are you...and him?

We know nothing about Patchans ability as a D-End. Not holding my breath on his contribution. Don’t think coaches are either as they search for a transfer.

And the fact that Joyner is being told he'll play some DE....that's not exactly a ringing endorsement for Patchan.

It does make sense though. DE is the worst spot on the team, depth wise.
