Pata

Some chick who was distantly related to Pata told me in high school it got handled in the streets in regards to the case not being solved...but who knows...

I honestly figured something like this is what really happened

Someone HAD to have known something as this didnt appear to jus be random

So in other words, a witness was killed or the cops were payed off? It's a shame, I just wish justice could be done and we could know what happened.

What I'm saying is the shooter got disposed of...according to her.

Yep, they were 'payed' off. Another PHD on the board.[/QUOTE]

Says the guy who can't abbreviate correctly.

Oops, sorry. "Paid" off. It's funny you make a statement like that based off of one grammatical error, but I'm actually a college honors student at a small, private University in West Palm Beach who is going to be studying abroad at Oxford next year. Anyways, carry on.

So you go to Palm Beach Atlantic University, the 51st best Southern Regional University as per US News' rankings?

A cut above #53 Arkansas State University, but not quite at the level of #46 Marshall University (who takes all the football players unable to qualify at Miami).

Stop relying on police intel and public statements to validate street sht. Bad as itwas it wasnt random and i bet it was handled

No.

Dude who shot Pata got killed in retaliation. Word travels fast in the street, especially for a high profile crime like this was at the time.

Most of our players being street dudes or having street connections, im sure word got back around eventually and was dealt in the way as it usually is in the street.

This is from the lead investigator on the Pata case...

"There are a few things Dominguez does know, however. The shooting is not believed to be gang-related, nor is it believed to be retaliation for something Bryan did to someone else. Dominguez says the weapons found in Pata's apartment are not believed to be a sign that Pata was hanging in bad circles, and he has no reason to believe Pata's killing was tied to the non-fatal shooting of Willie Cooper, Pata's UM teammate, just four months prior.

Dominguez also confirmed that Pata's shooting is not thought to be related to the FIU-UM on-field brawl, which took place just 24 days before Pata was killed. Dominguez wouldn't comment on whether he believes that Pata's killer was someone Pata knew, but for Pata's family, that seems like a virtual certainty."

The family seems really open to the idea that Bryan Pata knew his killer or that the killer was on UMs football team. They even went so far to say it might have been a setup and the people around him leading up to his death were acting fishy. Personally I wouldn't put much into what the family says unless there is evidence behind it but there doesn't seem to be much evidence at all. It sounds like at this point there just hoping someone comes forward and unless that happens then it will remain a cold case.

By no means am I saying that this is the truth, just another possibility. However this is coming straight from his brother Edrick. I was running the track with my brother in law at FIU a few years ago, and we ran into Pata's brother. My bro in law knows them from North Miami Senior High. Anyways, the subject came up about Pata, and the family does have a good idea who might have done the killing. According to them Pata was coming into some money and no one really knew where it was coming from. He was driving an Infiniti QX56 at the time and the family had no idea how he came into it. Apparently, Pata was dealing with an agent or street agent and he was frontin him money in exchange for representation when Pata turns pro. Pata apparently changed his mind later on and the agent wasn't happy about it. Pata was around hiss brothers and was always getting calls from this guy asking him to reconsider. The night of the killing, Pata was heard arguing with someone outside his apartment and was shot in the back of the head. Turning away from someone probably means he knew the person. Just passing on what I heard.

didn't mean to like that post..as in, I am pleased with it.. what i meant was, thanks for adding what you heard...If that is the case and his agent or street agent had something to do with his death, and what others said is true as well- street justice- if all this is true- ****! Crazy shtt. So sad too.

Rather than turn this into a pointless mud-slinging contest, I concede and you win tough guy! Good job KingsCountyCane! :applouse:

That area is really nice , use to rent a condo there at woodside of kendall , crazy I use to walk to the greenery mall alot where the guitar center/starbucks/jamba juice was at :/

His car was reportedly a lease which was consigned or signed for by his brother-in-law. That was widely reported. We can speculate all we want, but good people run into psycopaths every day in this country, and in every neighborhood. Speculation that he knew his killer is certainly more of a story.

The car has me wondering...It's hard to believe Pata or a relative would've been able to pay for it, or even lease it for that matter. According to an article I saw on ESPN's website, he moved 7 times as a kid. I wonder who got him that car...Shapiro? An agent? Or was it really family? Etc. That same article also implied that there may be tension between Pata's GF and his family. Not sure what to make of all this, but I feel terrible for his family as he seemed like a good guy who couldn't wait until his name got called on draft day, so he could help his family financially. Here's the article: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=pata
