OT Tom Herman wants out of Texas

Heard a ND fan say that at least ND has "morals and values" and in the same breath said they hope ND fires Kelly and goes after Urban

Just goes to show how hard it is to win significantly at the highest levels. Saban, Dabo, and Urban are unicorns. Everyone else is just trying to find the next one. They are playing a different game
I still think the guy is good. Texas is a weird place to coach. In any case he is an upgrade over what we have.
You must be crazy, texas is in the top 10 of talent evaluation we are 18th and they have the same number of wins as we do and more money. Your wrong!

My prediction that Mullen is going to be at Texas next year is increasingly likely. No Cristobal, Meyer, and Herman wants out. In the era of coaches getting contract extensions even after losing to 1 win teams (Mario), it's extremely interesting that Mullens contract is coming up and he still hasn't re-upped with

Yep. Good O terrible D.

Sheesh. Austin’s a tough job. My former colleague is an alum & very active in their alumni association. They have been absolutely jonesing for a Nat’l title since tasting one in like forever back in ‘06.

They expect immediate results. They don’t realize that Herman took over a Texas program from 2010-2016 that was an utter mess.

However; Tom Herman da gawd, was actually trending down at Houston prior to accepting the UT job. I think Texas pulled the trigger too quick. I was a Herman fan, but I must admit, I also didn’t pay attention to him except the memorable 2015 season and beating the mighty Semenholes in a NY6 bowl. The following yr, Houston took a step back, & UT pulled the trigger.

It’s starting to look like the one 13 win season in Houston was more fluke than reality. He’s 4-0 in bowl games, but his team is typically around 7-9 wins.

Edit: had hella typos in the original post. Lol. My fault. Liquor.
Jimbo isn't complaining and that was a bigger dumpster fire than the horns situation. No shortage of bags here in TX. Herman just sucks and can't even win the big 12.

It’s not just the tech era. It’s not just one thing. Look what took him down the second time. Had nothing to do with his players and the real damning things that came out happened like 10 years before. Society is t as forgiving for the ole ball coach these days is all I’m saying. And it’s just a lot of BS to deal with too

I’m also saying I’m not sure Urban wants to have all that for a job in Texas. I think he’d coach again, but only at ND. Just my opinion.
Ah ok I hear u. I had actually totally forgotten about that whole thing w the assistant coach

And why aren’t we hiring the unicorn U.M.????
When we truly invest like we are in it to win it, I will get excited....until then, it’s Cheetos Bowls year on year out

Urban was an up and comer at Utah when he hit it big with Florida. Dabo was a WR coach that was widely panned and almost fired until about 2014. The only legit guy in the trio is Saban. I would add Day and Riley to this list, and both of them started at coordinator. My point was that truly elite coaches are worth their weight in gold, but there aren’t a ton. Further, even if we offered Urban $10 million per year and prima nocta in Dade Co, he still wouldn’t come. We are do not have an athletic department or infrastructure capable of bringing guys like that in

You don’t think Urban would coach at Miami at $10M a year? That would be near impossible for any coach not Saban to turn down. I just don’t believe Urban wants back in.

I don't think he would. He's not going somewhere where there is no support or infrastructure. To win in today's college football, it really helps to have a massive support staff like Saban has at Alabama. I don't see us spending that kind of money.

The days of Miami hiring coaches like Lou Saban and Howard Schnellenberger are over and gone. Guys with legit resumes. In the 80's, Miami admin wanted to win and they were willing to hire the best in order to get there. Today, we hire first-time, no experience coaches because we have an admin that doesn't give a ****.

In the 80's, the university was looking to make a name for itself and saw football as a way of doing that. Today, they're fine with being mediocre at everything. There's no real push to get better from the highest levels.
