Remember the first hours after Chad O'Shea was fired? One supposed Dolphins and league insider after another said to calm down...O'Shea was fired solely because the Dolphins couldn't afford to lose Jerry Schuplinski. Unless they promoted Jerry Schuplinski to offensive coordinator they would lose Jerry Schuplinski. The long term priority is Jerry Schuplinski.

So much for that. The priority was Chan Gailey.

And I have to say I don't blame these guys for departing. If they saw Flores and Judge on the same staff in New England it's easy to evaluate who you trust and who you would prefer to work for. Flores looked tough on the sideline but once he's firing coaches after an overachieving first season you've got to believe there was chaos and disagreement behind the scenes. Belichick is not known for rash firing of assistant coaches.

I am not sure how coveted he really was. The Dolphins didn't even officially promote him to QB coach after Caldwell left. Before that he was assistant QB coach for the Patriots. I am betting Brady did more QB coaching than he did.

I honestly can’t remember Belichick firing an assistant.

Their OL coach after Scarnecchia retired wasn’t great but even then he waited until his contract was up.

He shows a surprising amount of patience with young coaches, too.

Patricia was deeply unpopular with fans his first few seasons and Belichick let him work through it.
