He says it was offered $450k from an ACC school and I just researched online and supposedly he was between Seton Hall and Georgia Tech. Given only Georgia Tech is from the ACC, I find it a bit hard to believe. Remember, we're talking 1998, too. $450k back then is worth considerably more today. Harrington seems like a straight shooter, so who knows, but I'm not buying it.

So what's his incentive to lie about it?

Guys like you and me are talking about him when we never otherwise would, and his name is out there again. Maybe he misses the limelight. It just doesn't make a lot of sense, especially if you think Georgia Tech was ponying up that type of cash for their ****** basketball program.

It's not football, you only need to pay 2 guys a year to build a very very good team.

GT used to drop big bags for basketball players. They consistently pulled elite players from the Northeast. One has to be very naive to think Kenny Anderson and Stephon Marbury didn’t command big dollars for their services.

I fully believe guys get paid all the time. I just don't believe $450k was offered on top of a job for his mom back in 1998. Not from a ****** basketball team in the middle of a 7 year stretch where they only made the tourney one time.

Why didn't they pay for other players during that span? Usually the schools that pay players (Kansas was mentioned) have a systemic habit of doing so. It's also why they don't experience a 7 year stretch of bad basketball like GT did.

Ga tech was producing pros in that time span. Marbury, Drew Barry, Matt Harpring, Jason Collier, Dion Glover. Ga Tech players then and now was very different.

I live in Louisville and the word around here is that UK gave like 3/4 of a million for Anthony Davis and u already heard U of L paid 100K for Bowen. He may be telling the truth. GT has had some Top ranked 5⭐ players commit to them in the past.

LOL

GT didn’t offer anyone 450k to go there. That’s not even the slightest bit believable. Maybe 4,500 in 1998. Shlt, 45K would have been a stretch.

You guys won’t even understand the school if you think that’s possible.
