As a fan I believe Diaz needs to mature. He has the right mentality and everyone thought Enos was a great hire so can't put to much on Diaz except he needed to assert himself when the offense obviously was horrible, just like he got more involved with the defense. Our 3 game win streak was an illusion as most of us believed we had righted the ship, unfortunately it only showed how shallow the waters were. The plusses for Diaz are KJ, Hedley, and our defense although some think we've regressed but look at how we performed with so many pieces missing, we cannot fault the defense for yesterday.
As an optimist I believe Diaz can learn from failure even though it is painful for fans. With a little luck and a few failed plays we could've been in the ACC championship game, fortunately we got exposed and knowing the flaws is an opportunity to make fixes. We have a bunch of talented recruits coming in and hopefully a decent OC and staff. Forget the three QB's of this year, Matocha and Van Dyke are the real deal and in a better system even the three could improve. We need an OC that teaches and knows how to exploit our strengths rather than have a system.
I want to see Diaz become more a manager as it seems he gets too engaged with the players and doesn't display that authoritarian that is necessary to succeed. For those who have met Butch in person you know he is an intimidating presence whereas Diaz lacks that image, something he can work on. I also hope he has learned that his public comments get scrutinized to the max and he needs to keep some problems internal and not think out loud. He also needs to be a disciplinarian as he allowed to many distractions during the season. If he doesn't then we will waste another year but I believe he is wise enough to correct what is wrong but expect some mistakes, hopefully not too painful mistakes. It is too soon to make a change at the top and we know Diaz is more distressed than any of us, just pray he puts that rotten feeling into positive energy. One more year...no extensions...no excuses...one more and onward or out the door.

Everyone did not think Enos was a good hire.

If Manny is going to have any chance, he's going to have to cut the dead weight off the roster, NOT keep inviting it back. He talks about getting rid of the cancer while smoking 5 packs a day.

I just don't think Manny has it in him to make hard decisions.

Jesus Christ dude. What’s this about his right mentality? Flashing costume jewels and not teaching mental toughness?

making a fat body his defensive captain?

letting quitters back?

casting blame everywhere but on himself?

He needs to grow up as a person but he can do that on his own time. He doesn’t even have the self composure to NOT lisp in public.

edit: PS a man with a lisp couldn’t intimated a 5 year old girl. LOL at commanding respect when you sound like Sylvester the cat.

another sucker.

“he really cares more than us”.

no, he doent. hes a ******* NOLE. hes a politician who wanted a seven figure gig in his hometown and his daddys friends made it happen.

stop with this jesusification of diaz acting ljke this dude bleeds for UM. he doesnt. hes a coach hired to do a job and he sucks at it.

1. Everyone did NOT think Manny Diaz was a good hire.
2. Everyone did NOT think Mark Richt was a good hire.
3. Everyone did NOT think Blake James was a good hire.
I'm to the point where I just don't want to think about any of them anymore. Then when someone asks me what I think about someone, I can honestly tell them, "I don't."

So, in short, he needs a head shrink a la behavior modification strategist. I feel real good now.

OP is another genius who cares more about how a coach looks and acts than if we win games.

Jewels over wins for this sucker.

I didn’t think Enos was a good hire. In fact, my words exactly were “that’s a horrible hire, the worst of any of the names mentioned.” That was a blatantly horrible decision by Manny. As was hiring Baker, retaining Rumph and Banda, and firing Hartley.

Most of the vets knew that all three of those hires were putrid. I got hammered for saying Mark Richt reminded me of Tommy Tuberville — he WAS a good coach, but the game had passed him by.

I got hammered again for ****ting on the Diaz hire because I thought he was green as **** and didn’t deserve a Power 5 HC job. James was also obliterated by the vets for not executing an actual coaching search.

People can call a spade a spade. I went as far as predicting that Wario will be our next coach and that he will fail, too. This program is cursed.

Go back and read OP's post history. He's slurped every failed coach we have had.

Fans like OP are, in part, responsible for the current state of affairs. Years and years of you pompous ******** willingly accepting a **** product because you enjoy tailgating and posting pics on social media.

I thought Enos was basically an average hire but that a competent coach would significantly improve this offense from the ineptitude of 2018. I was wrong about Enos' competency. His successes of the past were due solely to having better personnel, not any tactical acumen or ability to adjust.

I know he hasnt been head coach for 4 years, but he has been here for 4 years. This culture problem he talks about. That's him, he is part of that culture. It is going to take a miracle hire at O coord to recover. Maybe it can happen. Prob not though.

How could you look at anything in Eno's history and conclude that he was an "average hire" and "competent."

Did you miss @WhatTheHell 's original thread on the topic, back then? Or were you one of the pompous ***** who chided fans like @WhatTheHell for having a rational analysis that didn't consist of "hehuehuehue Alabama guysmmm hehuehue"

The good news is this is an easy fix. All we need is to bring in a competent AD with passion and autonomy.

Oh no, I have seen so many wins my expectations are we will win every game and recent history has been painful. Painful was Porter's call, painful was officials having a bad day at ND as far as games go but super PAINFUL is seeing coach after coach come here and not succeed. At what point do you say we can work with this guy because he won't quit until he gets it right. Coach after coach is not a solution. As many the only TRUE Hurricane coach available for us has been Butch but any other doesn't get the same vibe. Diaz needs to grow some balls or quit since Hurricanes are recruited as tough as nails kids from places like Overtown and cannot be coddled into performing. Butch brought that, the rest have been wimps, lets hope Diaz quits being a wimp with his staff and his players, college football is not a love fest until you win championships. Hurricanes talk the talk and walk the walk and that includes coaches but not what we've had lately.

I want fire and obvious intensity that won't accept failure, Diaz needs some MACHO or he won;t succeed.
