And this team has a completely different vibe top to bottom. A few notes:

-this was not 2024 UF. This Notre dame team, even with a young qb, is VERY good. I would expect 10 wins for them, except there’s no way Carr will make it through a whole season if he doesn’t learn to slide. Freeman gives me some Richt vibes. They played tough and matched up very evenly with us.

-our defensive front is littered with DUDES. Bain, mesidor, blay, Scott and Moten are all tone setters.

-one big bust by traore, but otherwise he plays fast and physical the way a canes LB should.

-the secondary revamp looks like a complete success. You could see guys like Lucas, Thomas and poyser swarming at the second level. Other than a great catch by Malachi fields, Frédérique was top notch.

-the o line played a decent game, and Mauigoa clearly sticks out as elite. He’s probably the best run blocking lineman in college.

-I know, I know. One game sample size. But if they play like this for a full season, Toney/Daniels/Marion form a nice complementary group — they surpassed my expectations replacing almost all of our production from last season. All flashed some crisp routes. Add a healthy jojo and an emerging Moore, and it’s a nice group.

-beck was solid. Ball placement was a little off at every level, but he demonstrated good decision making (although the one handed catch by Daniels could’ve been a disaster).

-Fletcher keeps getting better each season. Brown really stepped up with Lyle getting bottled up.

-how about that kicker???
