On3 Ranks Miami as the No. 1 Offense in College Football Entering 2026

There’s a reason so many people are high on Miami heading into the 2026 season. On3’s J.D. PicKell recently ranked the Hurricanes as the No. 1 offense in college football, and when you look at the roster Mario Cristobal has built, it’s not hard to see why.

It all starts at quarterback. After Carson Beck moved on, Miami landed one of the biggest portal additions in the country by bringing in former Duke quarterback Darian Mensah. Widely viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in college football, Mensah is coming off a huge season where he threw for 3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just six interceptions while completing 66.8% of his passes. He’s already proven he can lead an offense at a high level, and now he’ll have even more talent around him in Coral Gables.

Miami’s receiver room has a chance to be one of the best in the country, and it starts with Malachi Toney returning for another season. Toney broke out in 2025 as one of the ACC’s most explosive receivers, finishing with 99 receptions for 1,089 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s the type of player defenses have to account for on every snap because of what he can do after the catch and his ability to create separation.

The Hurricanes also made a big addition through the transfer portal by landing former West Virginia receiver Cam Vaughn. Vaughn led the Mountaineers in every major receiving category last season, recording 35 catches for 541 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 15.5 yards per reception. Before his year at West Virginia, he posted 48 catches for 803 yards and five touchdowns at Jacksonville State, showing he can produce wherever he plays. Miami also reunited Mensah with one of his favorite targets from Duke, Cooper Barkate. The veteran receiver hauled in 72 catches for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns last season and gives the Hurricanes another reliable weapon on the outside. Having that built-in chemistry between quarterback and receiver should help Miami hit the ground running this fall, and you should be excited.

The backfield is just as loaded. Mark Fletcher Jr. is coming off the best season of his career after rushing for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he’ll be joined by Jordan Lyle, CharMar Brown, and Girard Pringle Jr. Miami has the depth to rotate fresh backs all game long without losing production. This is the top running back room in the entire country.

The offensive line is probably the biggest question mark on Miami’s offense, but there’s still plenty of reason for optimism after losing a bunch of talent to the NFL this past season. The Hurricanes signed Jackson Cantwell, the No. 6 overall player in the 2026 class, and he’ll step in as the starting left tackle from Day 1. He’s an elite talent, but the good news is he won’t have to carry the load by himself. Cantwell will be surrounded by experienced linemen who have played a lot of college football, giving Miami a solid group up front. If this group builds chemistry early, the offensive line has a good chance to become one of the team’s strengths by the end of the season.

McCoy and Co. better not **** this up.. Everything literally hinges on him
A lot of people are banking on trusting Mario/Mirabel going into year 5 that OL will NOT be a weakness. Pickell had a show breaking down his top 10 and his comments on Miami were essentially (paraphrasing):

You tell me how do you stop them? They have a legit 4 deep at RB, consistent fresh legs and bring back a RB that gashed top teams in the playoffs last year, they have not one but two #1 WRs in Toney and Cooper, and you have a stud QB that has elevated every team he has been on so then I guess you point to the inexperience on the OL, and let me tell you if that is what you are banking on with a mirabel and mario team? the OL being a weakness? there is a better chance of the temperature in miami dropping to 20 degrees in august.

Mostly, but I don’t think it is McCoy or bust. I think we have the depth to plug in someone else like Merriweather or Cogdon/Irving if McCoy falters.
Two true freshman tackles is ehhh.. Asking alot, I know we play acc schedule but I am thinking towards Dec. and Colin Simmons and such..

Believe me I understand, I played under Maribal and believe in him as much as next guy, I was around when guys wanted him fired just last year, lol (yes I remember, lol) Its just alot of question marks on the line, I have to see it..

Everyone questions a Dline with Two of four returning and those two being NFL prospects and one replaced by 5 star who is productive and in contract year and other side is lets say question mark with like 3 different 5 stars that can fill role..

but when you say hey how about oline replacing 4 of 5 guys and the 1 guy returning was lowest out of 5 and you got to roll out 6 year injury riddle guy and others with barely any experience, I think its fair to say thats a question mark and want to see them on field before anything..

I think a big difference this year is Mensah is capable of dealing behind an oline that's not ideal, if it does end up that way.

By December there sophomores! If we've made it to the playoffs the bal brothers plus viti will have them ready

Imagine this offense if we get any significant contribution from the TE position.

I didn’t realize you played under Mirabal that’s super cool.

I’ve always been a fan of Samson and do not see him as a drop off from the three drafted guys. Feel like our center will be as good as the last one. And while he’ll struggle in the first half of the season in pass pro I have zero concerns about Hercules at LT especially by the time we get into the meat of the schedule. That young man was built using a different mold. I guess I just don’t see the risk you’re talking about.

Any word on SJ, Wilkerson and Campbell? I expected them to be adequate by now. Along with the transfers Cline and Meriweather, and that Juco they picked up. I know we’re hyping the true freshmen but I would hope these guys get first rotation in

Watching these highlights and imagining our current players in these same roles... my God, this offense has the potential to be scary.

The weapons

Cooper Barkate > Jacolby George
Malachi Toney > Xavier Restrepo
Joshua Moore > Isaiah Horton
