Dam that's rough, well they better land Matthew's somehow then. We trying to remain at the big boy table national title contention a 3 star guy like Ford can't be the only OT we bring in
Don’t forget we had 3 “3 star” starters on the best Oline in football last year. If there’s any position coach that we can trust to develop, it’s OL.
And who were they exactly? We had as many 5 stars as 3 stars on the line?

They can more than hold their own and make this a good o-line. Just would suck being this close to landing two monsters. Pairing one of them opposite Cantwell would make it dam near impossible for edges to get to our QB

The monster to pair with Cantwell may already be on campus though? Which is why they won't splurge for Olu?

McCoy, Brock and cooper were 3 stars. Bell a 4 star. And Francis and Samson were 5 stars

Not going to lie, this sounds like cope as well. Five-star offensive linemen, as many have pointed out, are almost always worth the investment and who exactly are the proven players or commodities that we would be losing if we paid for Olu?

I trust Mario and Mirabal as well, but we should not be content filling depth and settling for projects.

At this point, what the **** are we saving our money for?
Proven commodities was used poorly by me as a general term for personnel management/decisions, because our new OT aren't proven commodities.

Regarding the OL, I have to think what they saw during the Spring with Cantwell and Cogdnon altered their view of what's needed at OT moving forward. They may have course corrected in terms of what they were willing to spend.

I feel like we had this same discussion on this board after signing Cici and Samson - meaning we were "bodied" for high end OT recruits, but the approach seemed to work out (the projects they signed at OT are now beginning to flash like Campbell and Wilkerson). Campbell and Wilkerson were projects with traits, and it seems like we may have something there moving forward. I can see that being the approach with this class - you have your set # for the position that you feel comfortable spending, and if the # is too rich for your taste then you move on.

Speaking of a #, it's clear we are willing to spend big on MM but not Olu. Both are 5* but one is projected to be a day 1 starter while the other isn't. I think that reveals to us what the plan is which is why I said what I said in the paragraph above.

In terms of what they are saving the money for...it's clear they are willing to spend big on Jacobs (same with MM). But I don't think it's necessarily about saving money as it is more about spending money smartly based on how you value the prospect and where you project said prospect (Olu is valued but not to the same dollar amount as an MM or Jacobs).

Call it cope if you want, but I think (I'm speculating because none of us are in that recruiting room or have insight on what the thinking is) we are watching an organization that is trying to maximize talent, extract value from said talent, and continue to be successful in retaining our proven commodities when the 2026 season concludes.
Perfectly said

And if I may add, if there’s any spot on the team we can trust the development it’s OL. Last years line was the best in college football and it had 3 3 stars in McCoy, cooper and Brock. A 4 star in bell. And two five stars in Francis and Samson who played a different position than his recruiting profile. And I agree, I think this spring and the development of said Olinemen have shifted their priorities. To me, spend money on DL and LB this cycle since there’s the potential of a big drop off talent wise after this year

Saving money=cope

I think it’s a fine line. With agents in the middle, programs build up profiles for how they negotiate. You need a good poker face and need to enter in with a reservation price you’re not willing to exceed. If you’re always the highest bidder, agents will abuse you. Most important is we don’t bid against ourselves.

No insider but as an observer — I think with Mensah it was whatever it took. With Cantwell it was come in extremely high as the top offer to prove we won’t be beat, indicate we’d always match but stay out of bidding in mid rounds. Same with Matthews. But for Olu and 95% of the other recruits, we have a max and stick with it. The agents try to get to it while the staff holds their cards tight, hence the games even when we land guys.

4 star as a high school recruit, 3 star as a transfer

Lol so he was a 4 star? If we going with transfer portal rankings then Mesidor was a 4 star and the #3 DL
