Ol' Butch Looking Mighty Good Right Now

#19 Miami-13
@ #21 Syracuse-66

But yes, let's hire Butch lol. Why don't we hire 48-0 Randy as DC too? Seriously guys, we need a coach that can do more with less, not one who has one season with 10+ wins (and that team was loaded with pros). Butch can recruit a beastly team, no doubt. He is also cheap and available, but do we really want to be on probation again and maybe get the death penalty this time? We need a cerebral coach with great schemes. Golden is gone (hopefully), but we can't make the mistake again of getting a coach that plays bland pro-style schemes in 2014. Butch is a good back up plan if our other options don't work out.

A week later....

Miami: 49
#3 UCLA: 45

I want someone who can get a job and doesn't have to work on ESPN2 LOL. Butch would go work for a USF type school in a heart beat, yet no one offers him. Why? Maybe because he is slimy and knew about what was going on at UNC? Or maybe because he recruited against Miami and its safety at Sean Taylor's funeral? Yeah, let's hire that guy. And while we're at it, we can hire Bobby Pertino as OC and Jim Leavitt as DC. I'm all for forgiveness, but we are ALREADY ON PROBATION. If anything else were to happen, Miami football would get the death penalty...

Look, I support the handicapped, but why do you pose dumbass questions, when you've NEVER actually looked for the real answers?

You then postulate ridiculous alternatives without having any concept of what actually happened, or what happened in context with some VERY REAL sanctions?

It's bad enough to be stupid, but you don't have to try so hard. We see it.

where does The Franchise stand on this issue?

I trust his thoughts when it comes to coaching decisions. Is he for or against Butch? I'd be curious his thoughts not only on Butch as a candidate now, but also what his thoughts were of him back when he was originally coaching UM...the first 4 years or so when we were struggling.

You mean the first 4 years of real schit storm crippling sanctions. Not just a little cloudy right?

Let's be honest about the situation now.

Realistically, Al is here next year with a new staff..... Boy oh boy would Butch be an upgrade
remember the administration that had issues with Butch are mostly gone do not know about BOT though
last Sat night was toughest loss ever in over 30 years .... even during probation i knew Butch had us headed in right direction

Absolutely wrong.

Butch has the motivation and incentive to prove none of it was a fluke, he brings TONS more college and NFL experience than he had when building arguably our greatest team of all time...not to mention he would likely be cheap, something this pathetic administration has proven to be VERY interested in..

BTW....how is Alabama faring with their mistake in hiring an older coach that plays bland pro-style schemes?

wonder if butch would even want to coach anymore? seems like a tv gig is were its at, no stress,

Butch is chomping at the bit to get back to UM and make this happen big time. He's interested in his legacy, and wants so badly to win some 'ships here at Miami, where he knows for a fact he can recruit the best of the best athletes, and start wiping the floor with VT, FSU, and others.

yes, those years. it's easy for someone to look back now and say that they always believed in butch. but my understanding is that MANY were calling for him to be fired at the time. This doesnt mean that Golden will turn out to be the next butch. it only means, that im curious as to one fan's opinion(who i trust as both intelligent & honest) of Butch at that time & now.

I was pretty down on Butch I still had major doubts in the first 4 years however the bottom line was I wrong. Al Golden complained more about the thought of probation then Butch actually complained about losing 31 scholarships. I will always view Golden as the world's biggest pussssssy cause of the cloud.

After 4 years of Golden (and 4 years of Shannon before that) I'm salivating at the thought of having a HC who is that cutthroat.

I can't wrap my brain around people thinking re-hiring Butch is a bad idea.
Why anyone wouldn't want him back is just beyond me.

It's a no brainer.
He's an instant homerun.

Yeah, and despite real sanctions we finished ranked in the Top 20 three out of those four years.

Hahaha! Let's see. Butch came in to clean up the program, right after winning his second Superbowl as Defensive Coordinator. The program was hit with 31 scholarship losses, and the clock on those started the year Butch took over. Losing 31 scholarships DOES tend to accumulate and then affect the win/losses.

After winning ALL the time, that one season was intolerable to a number of fans, but others realized that the roster was a bit thin, and understood.

Butch had one bad year when the full impact of the scholarship reductions kicked in, but then, he never looked back.

You be sure to watch 30 for 30, The U, Part 2, right after the Heisman Awards. ESPN didn't put this show there just on a whim. It's because tons of sports fans will be watching. Because they are interested.

But you? You'll learn a few things. Just like a lot of others will learn a few things about Butch Davis.

THEN, a bit more educated, you see if you can't figure this siht out for yourself.

The only number that matters:

3-1 versus Miami in his 4 years at UNC, with his only loss coming in 2010 when multiple players had been suspended and he still managed to beat FSU that year (the same FSU team that beat us 45-17).

BRING BUTCH BACK!!!!!!

My only worry is this:

Why hasn't he been offered or considered for a job since UNC? That's it....

I know he wasn't implicated by the NCAA for any wrong doing, but is there something schools and AD's know that the regular public doesnt?

i do honestly appreciate you taking the time to respond, but i fear you may have misunderstood.

i was simply asking for the opinion on a coach from a poster that i have long respected. i made no value judgement on butch's coaching ability one way or the other.
