where does The Franchise stand on this issue?
I trust his thoughts when it comes to coaching decisions. Is he for or against Butch? I'd be curious his thoughts not only on Butch as a candidate now, but also what his thoughts were of him back when he was originally coaching UM...the first 4 years or so when we were struggling.
You mean the first 4 years of real schit storm crippling sanctions. Not just a little cloudy right?
Let's be honest about the situation now.
yes, those years. it's easy for someone to look back now and say that they always believed in butch. but my understanding is that MANY were calling for him to be fired at the time. This doesnt mean that Golden will turn out to be the next butch. it only means, that im curious as to one fan's opinion(who i trust as both intelligent & honest) of Butch at that time & now.
Hahaha! Let's see. Butch came in to clean up the program, right after winning his second Superbowl as Defensive Coordinator. The program was hit with 31 scholarship losses, and the clock on those started the year Butch took over. Losing 31 scholarships DOES tend to accumulate and then affect the win/losses.
After winning ALL the time, that one season was intolerable to a number of fans, but others realized that the roster was a bit thin, and understood.
Butch had one bad year when the full impact of the scholarship reductions kicked in, but then, he never looked back.
You be sure to watch 30 for 30, The U, Part 2, right after the Heisman Awards. ESPN didn't put this show there just on a whim. It's because tons of sports fans will be watching. Because they are interested.
But you? You'll learn a few things. Just like a lot of others will learn a few things about Butch Davis.
THEN, a bit more educated, you see if you can't figure this siht out for yourself.
