What I find interesting and I noticed this during the short yardage plays. Even when everyone in the world knows what play we will run.

When the offensive line simply lines up and runs down hill they move bodies.

When we attempt to to zone block we look lost, weak and horrible. It makes me wonder if our coaching and technique are bad. How can the O Line get push on short yardage plays when they simply line up and put a hat on hat but look like high school cheerleaders when zone blocking.

I ask this question for this simple reason. If Searels is the problem then we should see instant results with a new coach. Or is the problem Ritch’s scheme which is making the offensive line look bad?

I am worried that a change may be made that has nothing to do with the issue

It makes you wonder if the coaching and technique are bad. Really? You're still on the fence about that? How many games in a row do we need to lose to teams with inferior talent to convince you? 5? 19?

Because Richt wants to take a group of drive blockers and force them to zone block. Consequently this OL and by extension this offense sucks.

Do we have the wrong personal for the blocking scheme we are trying to run or Is the coach simply that bad and if replaced UM should see instant results.

Because if it is the latter, a move for a new o line coach should not be optional.

This is why I asked this question because is Searels taking heat because he cant coach or is the problem with Ritch scheme which is making the offensive line look bad.

Because if it is Ritch scheme, replacing a new offensive line coach may have little impact and another waisted year. Basically buying time just to get the same results

Or is it a combination of both

Dude that was the conversation i was having with a Oline coach. GREAT POINT about zone blocking.

Also I don’t think it helps that we have the s-l-o-West developing run plays I have seen in CFB and our backs are always flat footed when they get the ball

Especially with Travis Homer. To me, Homer is your classic downhill power back and not the type of back that does well in moving side to side. It reminds me of how D Murry struggled so much after leaving Dallas and going to Chip Kelly offense.

Homer looks like a one cut and go type of guy.

We recruit these massive o lineman then ask them to zone block. Typically zone blocking offensive lineman should be more athletic.

It’s both. OL technique is garbage, Richts scheme isn’t Suited to his players.

Both need to change.

This has come to mind also and I noticed how massive our line is but always seem to get beat or just simply look uncomfortable blocking in space.

I think this may be the only true solution because if part of the problem is Ritch scheme, how much affect will a new o line coach really have and would we just be waisting another year

We used to switch a lot of DLs to the OL. They were smaller but could probably move better. We never do that anymore.

Are you referring to the times where we run fullback dive?
That's just wedge blocking.
It's always easier to get movement when you wedge block.

We should get movement on zone-blocking too, we just aren't athletic enough make/sustain contact.
