GT being an every year opponent that ran the option and required teams to adjust their defensive schemes every time they played GT has fired Johnson and I would assume their new HC will be more conventional. When you are in a conference you recruit and build to win that conference, eliminating the adjustment period for every time ACC teams play GT I think will improve the league. Johnson's offense has not produced winners but is like a nagging headache for coaches. Thoughts?

Richt go back to Georgia. GT waiting for you! I wonder if richt will move back to Georgia seriously lol

I don't know a thing about their new coach @fraggle , but no one wanted to play in Johnson's offense. GT wasted years in mediocrity. GA is loaded with talent. GT is an excellent school and sits in the heart of the ATL. There is no reason they shouldn't be in contention in the ACC every year. Sound familiar?

Agreed with OP. Especially since part of spring and fall practice had to be dedicated to plying that stupid offense. Now that time can be used better.

I'm glad we won't have to waste one weekend a year watching the triple option anymore. They probably won't be good for a little while.

Geoff Collins is a good Defensive coach & did a solid, not great job at Temple his 2 years there as a HC.

He's a George O'leary disciple from the early days at GTech & he was with him at UCF as well.

He was a DC at Miss St & UF, also DC'd one year with Critsobal at FIU.

Pretty good coach but still fairly unproven as a HC, he'll definitely have that Defense up to par but GTech is a school that is limited as far as what they can do in recruiting. They'll be competitive but not a real threat for the Coastal.

He no doubt would've beat Richt if Richt was still coaching this team, but we'll have to wait & see what Diaz is as HC too before we give any mandatory W's to him.

IIRC GT did not fire him.

Officially, CPJ retired. Unofficially, GT declined to renew his expiring contract. Semantics.

I expect them to be pretty terrible at first. Paul Johnson basically backed them into a corner with his offense to where this was inevitable when he left. On defense, it shouldn’t matter a whole lot, but on offense, it’s like asking a horse back mail carrier to fly a FedEx 747.

In the end, it will take years, but they do have a fertile recruiting ground. I expect them to eventually be just what they were under PJ, just without the ridiculous offense. Between 6-6 and 8-4, with the potential every now and then to contend for a division title if they catch a special player or two.
