Need to shore up on D

Richt is 14-2 vs GT. Last year we completely shut them down after the 1st quarter.

We're not doing the same things on D vs GT. Some of you guys think the staff is completely clueless, which is just dumb.

Willis will eat the option alive, we'll beat them, and then I'm sure you'll complain about something else

Even Golden had figured out GT's offense. They're the least of my worries.

Another thing, while we got gashed for some runs, it's worth recognizing that they ran 75 plays to our 46, which almost entirely the result of losing three full drives due to defensive TDs. You're going to give up at least a few big ones if you're seeing 75 plays.

I know it sounds ridiculous to complain about the defense when they outscored the opposing offense 21 - 10, but we were legitimately getting gashed on the ground in the first half. Georgia Tech is going to give us fits if they don't make some adjustments.

Richt does not lose to GT. End of story. Yah they might run for 250. But they are a one dimensional offense and they have below average defense. The important thing in the UNC game is we made the adjustments after the first quarter to shut down the run. They got most of their run yardage in the first quarter and then on the final drive when we had 3rd string running against their 1's.

Manny's D will always be boom and bust... we will likely have 10TFL but give up one or two 20+ yard runs, it is bound to happen. The way to fix that is to put some points on the board and make their O one dimensional and that is when our D can really pin its ears back.
You live by sword and you die by..........(you get it).

I saw a mix bag of issues. Arm tackling, undisciplined play/Broken assignments, leaving lanes open for QB runs, and (for whatever reason) leaving guys wide open. One area that seems to haunt us is setting the edge. For some reason we have plays we don't set a hard edge and they get running lanes and gouge us. Once again that comes down to not playing disciplined football (I assume some of that comes from Manny's downhill style of D, but that doesn't excuse not playing assignment football). Hopefully we will get it fixed.

Its going to happen with the D that we play. We get alot of TFL but they will give up a big play. It also doesnt help that there were several missed tackles

They had multiple long runs on misdirection plays and from what I read, that is basically Willies Offense.

That **** needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP for next week. Keep on assignment and stick it in FSU's AZZZZ..

Man I hope its a late kick.

You mean option plays?

In the 1st half there were numerous plays where Shaq and Pinckney got caught in the wash, engulfed by blocks or were slow to the perimeter. This was negated some by surprisingly strong overall games from McCloud/Mike Smith and Shaq making plays in the passing game. Shaq needs to make quicker reads and get out of his stance before OL gets to the 2nd level and Pinckney needs to be more disciplined with his his run fits.

People who think any of our LBs are legit early entry possibilities are watching a different defense than I am. Seeing Anthony Barr - a former blue-chip RB - get lit up in coverage by the Rams is a reminder that Shaq will have a difficult transition athletically in the pros.

Safeties had issues tackling but Jaquan solves that problem.
I blame that whole heartedly on Diaz. These guys were loaded with potential and have regressed every year since they were freshmen while the DL, CBs, and Strikers have gotten better(I’m not blaming Patke for McCloud...he shouldn’t be a striker to begin with). We’re going to field a top 30 D again and I’m praying somebody buys the fools gold and he takes Banda with him in some kind of elevated role. That way Patke can be full time LB coach and Rumph can have the entire DB core...which would probably improve the back end tackling being that his CBs are apparently the only back end guys who can tackle.

I think the D just hadn’t prepared for that option on the short week, and they weren’t able to diagnose it on the fly. Diaz has coached against GT several times, and the D was fine.

Pinckney hasn't developed at all. Shaq does almost everything right but imo he would be more effective if he was leaner and more athletic.

LB development was much better under Barrow.

We didn't stop GT the rain did. They murdered us with the outside toss/run then it started raining so they didn't want to risk a fumble doing those toss plays so they stopped running them.
