They had multiple long runs on misdirection plays and from what I read, that is basically Willies Offense.

That **** needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP for next week. Keep on assignment and stick it in FSU's AZZZZ..

Man I hope its a late kick.

I saw a mix bag of issues. Arm tackling, undisciplined play/Broken assignments, leaving lanes open for QB runs, and (for whatever reason) leaving guys wide open. One area that seems to haunt us is setting the edge. For some reason we have plays we don't set a hard edge and they get running lanes and gouge us. Once again that comes down to not playing disciplined football (I assume some of that comes from Manny's downhill style of D, but that doesn't excuse not playing assignment football). Hopefully we will get it fixed.

Not just shore up but WRAP UP.....

It is but Francois(who is a good athlete but not great) can run but is no where near the athlete Surratt or even the Toledo qb was. With that being said he hasn’t been keeping the ball much on the zone read and you can tell his knee is still an issue. Does not look healthy imo

Yup.
We are going to smash Frenchie up like we did a couple years back. And this time he will probably never want to come back out of the medical tent.

Manny's D will always be boom and bust... we will likely have 10TFL but give up one or two 20+ yard runs, it is bound to happen. The way to fix that is to put some points on the board and make their O one dimensional and that is when our D can really pin its ears back.

Almost like playing those old Syracuse option teams .... have to stay on track and disciplined; otherwise you get taken out of the play

Good news is UNC's O line is 10Xs as good as FSU's O Line. That said, I agree. Too many plays where the D was just getting gashed and too big of a drop off on D when a couple of the #1s go out.

Yes DE's in the beginning not setting the edge....they were crashing inwards towards the center of the line.

One thing I did like is i didnt see the safety blitz from 20 yards out. And on 3rd down manny mostly only sent 4 or 5.

We’ll always be susceptible to misdirect ( to a degree) with all the slanting we do with the dL. It’s an aggressive defense , that’s why teams that use a lot of smoke in mirrors have a bit of success against us. We also blow assignments at a pretty high rate.

So with what fsu does and our defense it could be interesting, using our aggressiveness against us,with plenty of smoke in mirrors to have guys eyes in the wrong places. It also helps with our huge mismatch on the dL vs their ol.

Just unit vs unit it’s a no contest , but x’s / o’s and discipline could cause us more issues than it should.

I still think it would have to be an epic collapse for us to lose, with multiple huge mistakes on both sides of the ball.

Everyone seems to think we play a really aggressive defense which we do with the front 7 through blitzes, but our coverage for intermediate and underneath routes seem very conservative. When Elliot was in at QB for UNC he did complete a few wide open passes, against good teams that can’t be that easy

Yep. There was a 3rd down play late in the game where they were all the DB's were in press coverage. I loved that look !!!

I know it sounds ridiculous to complain about the defense when they outscored the opposing offense 21 - 10, but we were legitimately getting gashed on the ground in the first half. Georgia Tech is going to give us fits if they don't make some adjustments.

Just need to quit the **** freestyling from some LBs on run fits. It's infuriating. Just play assignment ball these next few games and we will be fine.

Excellent post. Deserved more than just a thumbs up.

Richt is 14-2 vs GT. Last year we completely shut them down after the 1st quarter.

We're not doing the same things on D vs GT. Some of you guys think the staff is completely clueless, which is just dumb.

Willis will eat the option alive, we'll beat them, and then I'm sure you'll complain about something else

In the 1st half there were numerous plays where Shaq and Pinckney got caught in the wash, engulfed by blocks or were slow to the perimeter. This was negated some by surprisingly strong overall games from McCloud/Mike Smith and Shaq making plays in the passing game. Shaq needs to make quicker reads and get out of his stance before OL gets to the 2nd level and Pinckney needs to be more disciplined with his his run fits.

People who think any of our LBs are legit early entry possibilities are watching a different defense than I am. Seeing Anthony Barr - a former blue-chip RB - get lit up in coverage by the Rams is a reminder that Shaq will have a difficult transition athletically in the pros.

Safeties had issues tackling but Jaquan solves that problem.
