NCAA changes transfer rule (article)

Wow that is a huge step towards mitigating the hijacking of the transfer process by schools and coaches.

This is bad news for college football imo ,
Schools will start to have less depth overall as backups won’t be inclined or stay anymore

This is going to have to be regulated better

I disagree. The requirement to sit out one-year is still in place (at least I did not read anything to the contrary). This just makes it so that the athletes have the ability to transfer wherever they reasonably can, without the school influencing that process. I think it's a positive rule change

Oh so to stop saban from saying they can’t transfer to another sec school?

Couldn’t disagree with you more. It needs to be regulated less.

Student-athletes should have complete agency over their education, and no school/coach should be able to restrict them in any way. You’re agreeing with Saban by the way who actually believes he has some god-given right to control players.

"I'm not talking about [controlling them] as football players," Saban said. "I'm talking about as people. I'm talking about doing the right thing academically. So if a guy is missing class and I say, 'You're not playing in this game,' which I've done on occasion, and he says, 'I'm transferring.' Is that good?"

He can determine who plays all he wants, but where they go to school should be none of his business.
As long as the rule of them sitting out a year is still in place it would be fine. However if that rule is gone then like gcane44 said it would be disastrous

They’re working on that one too (notice the last paragraph of my initial post) and I can’t wait until they overturn it.

Everyone knows my position on this because I’ve been posting it for over a year but I WELCOME the elimination of the 1-year sit rule. I believe it will be gone in two years.

I'm all about individual agency. But, elimination of that rule would be a disaster.

That would be the equivalent of the NBA or NFL having every player as a free agent every offseason, except with no salary caps.

Recruiting would extend to every single player in the nation EVERY YEAR. There would be players jumping on bandwagons to win ships. Plus, the teams with unlimited funds would have full staffs just dedicated to targeting and recruiting any and every good player in college football. It would probably sink Miami and destroy the product that is CFB.

This will create a waiver-wire like system where schools will shop for willing transfers............perhaps a second bag opportunity.................

Miami has been on both sides of this. The concern has always been sharing knowledge of our playbook.

Remember the names will go into a "National" database so all coaches woulds then be able to find replacements for departures. This would actually help teams that were in a OL, DB, DT and LB dearth like we were in. Also it allows kids to transfer after realizing the team and location is not what they want.

Also allows for orgs that are being shading in high school recruiting to be shady in poaching other colleges.
