There's all this chatter about how if Miami and Beck don't play their A++++++++++++++ game, then we have no shot and will more than likely get blown out. Here's the truth...
Championship games come down to trenches and D. As I've been saying now since end of the Fiesta Bowl - If we play our B+ game and aren't more than minus 1 in TO's, and we don't commit more than 6 - 7 penalties, we win this game. Beck and our boys don't have to play a perfect game or close to it to win.
Indiana, however, DOES have to play their A+++++++ game in order to be in the game. They don't have the athletes, the depth or the overall trenches that we do. So, here's the reality of tomorrow night's game...
If IU doesn't jump out by 2 scores early, and we aren't more than -1 in TO's, they will lose this game. IU doesn't have the depth or trenches to have a tight game going into the 4th quarter. Their depth on their DL will get exposed early, but man, if we can stick to the grind and pound run game through 4 quarters, the Canes WILL win.
So, to put a bow on this...
...it's not Miami that is required to play with perfection in order to win - we win for sure if we play our B+ game and probably if we play a B game.
It's actually Indiana that HAS to dominate us early and force Carson to throw 40 times in order to bring us back in order for us to not just bulldoze and pull away in the 4th.
Again. if we are able to weather some of their scoring and explosiveness (especially missing Xavier) in the 1st half and we come into the 2nd half close or ahead and able to keep pounding the ball, we will win #6. Not hope to. Not want to. Not if we're perfect. If Indiana doesn't play their own A++++ game from the jump and make us play major catchup, then all things being equal and barring a rash of TO's and penalties, we win.
