I think we have all the pieces of a solid team in both sides of the ball. A play off caliber team even.

But I don't think that’ll be apparent until the 2nd half of the season.

Both sides of the ball are essentially rebuilds. Yes you can’t point at some key pieces crossing over from last year. But defense is being reconstructed from the bottom up. Offense almost completely turned over all production, and the new QB didn’t even get spring reps with his guys.

It’s going to take awhile for these guys to gel and find their rhythm. I think that will be obvious opening against ND. They are gonna get punched in the mouth.

Regardless of how the first half of the season goes, I think second half they really show up. Question is can they simply survive long enough to not already be out of play off contention before that happens.

Defense should be better.
Offense about the same but will look totally different.
Special Teams Could be a little better.

Schedule is not set up for us as much as I would like but our hardest games are at home.

Coaching should be better. Being more creative on Defense should set the tone.

My feeling is we need atleast one playoff win otherwise the whole season is failure. By my preseason feeling is we won't fail.

If we go, as an example, 11-1 in the regular season, beat ND, UiF, FSU, and drop 1 ACC game....and go to Charlotte and win the ACC, earning the 3 seed in the playoffs as a 12-1 ACC Champion, and lose in a close game to the #6 seed in the quarterfinals on a neutral field (let's say we lose to Alabama as UGA wins the SEC)......that's a FAILURE? The entire season is a failure? A team who has NEVER won the ACC, nor made the playoffs one time in 20+ years in the league, and has won 11 regular season games ZERO times in 20+ years, if we go 11-1, win the league and lose in the playoffs, the season is a complete failure.

Y'all smoke some outrageous weed.

I can see us getting beat at home against the Irish. I wish that game were later in the season, but how we react to either victory or defeat will tell us a lot about the staff and the players.

My gut tells me that this is a 10-2 team. Offense will take a step back initially, as we have unproven talent at WR (even with portal additions which help depth and production). Strengths on O are elite OL, borderline elite RB room, and potential monster at TE. Beck, if he’s fine, will be a strength. Guys going from the majors to the minors conference level and competition wise.

On defense, I expect us to be much improved in the secondary. DL has upside and DE will be solid. I’m worried about LB and on special teams am worried at K. Borregales brothers we’re near automatic, and the Texas transfer can be good but stunk it up a lot last year (especially in the CFP).

All in all, this team will look and feel wayyyy different than last years. That’s not a bad thing though. They can be more balanced, imo. There’s no reason why this team shouldn’t be 6-1 (3-0) going into November (the one loss being to ND). I will also say that I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up 10-2 with an ACC Championship Berth coming off a very strong second half of the season.

I will absolutely not bet anything on the offense "being about the same". I don't think it will be bad, and should get better as the season goes. But we had the first overall pick in the draft and a generational talent at QB lol. Offense is taking a step back, full stop. Defense will be better, so it should be more balanced overall.
