Like I said before Rosier isn't a good QB. People kept saying that winning 10 games was a justifiable reason to think he is good. He is NOT good. He can not throw over LBs or 12 yards down field accurately. What scares me the most is Richt not having the balls to bench him, and no I don't mean during the LSU game I mean during this season. Richt strikes me as someone who is going to stick with Rosier the whole year just because it Rosier's last year. Remember when Alabama said during their QB competition that the QB has to win over the team? How many of us think he has won over his teammates? You can't be a liability and a leader at the same time.
Remember when I said Miami needed to recruit another punter? yea.. we should have. At least 10 of LSU's point were just because of field position. Constantly starting with the ball at the 50 yard line. Our defense needs to get better at stopping the run. LSU's Brossette ran for 125 yards on 22 carries for 5.7 yards per rush.
Our Offensive Line was not good but for me it was more from a communication in pass protection stand point. Rosier and Gauthier were atrocious adjusting the protection. I thought we were able to run the ball well. Don't let the 83 yards rushing fool you because that was mostly from the sack yardage. Both Dallas and Homer averaged 4.3 or better yards per carry against a very talented front 7. I think our physicality improved from last year IMO. I didn't see guy struggle to tackle LSU players but then again I wouldn't be able to 100% know for sure without looking at the tape.
Why did we lose by 16? For one, turnovers. LSU scored 26 on offense and Rosier pitched in with a pick 6. 2nd, punting. I DO NOT CARE WHAT RICHT HAS TO DO but he needs to replace Feagles. I don't understand how Richt continues to ignore the devastating effect Feagles has on our field position. It flabbergasting how little he pay attention to/doesn't cares about special teams at all really.
The 3rd reason we lost is from a schematic standpoint. Did we NOTHING to get Richards the ball, nothing. We didn't throw a bubble to him, we didn't give him a curl, or a drag just a total lack of effort to get a key player the ball. You would think with it being LSU and all we would make it a point to get the ball to our star players andddd, nope. I held myself back from criticizing Richt's play calling because I gave him time to recruit knowing the bag of sh*t Golden left us offensively. We did nothing to counter their constant blitzing, we did nothing to get the ball into Richard's hand, We had chances to hit a couple of bubble screens but we ran the same 2 running plays all game it like I'm watching a 1995 offense. Run up the gut, Run outside, pass on 3rd down.
Defensively we ran terribly disguised blitz which actually bust the game open on that long TD run. We ran a blitz with 2 DB coming from the same side/gap (Manny's specialty) LSU saw the blitz coming just like how EVERY SINGLE TEAM WE'VE EVER DONE THAT BLITZ AGAINST HAS and they audible and of course, like always, we did not and got gashed for 50 yards. WE ALWAYS GET GASHED ON THAT BLITZ AND IT BARELY RESULTS IN SACK AND YET MANNY CONTINUES TO RUN THEM. If you removed that 50 yard play from LSU rushing total because of that dumb *** blitz double gap blitz we held LSU to 106 yards on 2.6 yards per carry but Manny can't contain himself with that same side/gap DB blitz. I promise you if Manny scrapped that play out of his defensive playbook he might actually field a top 10 defense.
Another thing that annoys the **** out of me is the constant substitution of players. WHY IS KNOWLES ON THE FIELD? (who of course could have made a tackle on the 50 yarder but of course he doesn't because he shouldn't be on the field). THIS IS LSU these are the teams we need our best players on the field as much as possible. Manny defense should be so, so much better but he does things that are WAY TO RISKY and there is usually no logic for it. This just reinforce my stance that Manny lacks the feel to be a great defensive coordinator.
I think we will run through the coastal (unless we pull a FSU and quit). We will have a chance to beat Clemson when AND ONLY when we A) replace Feagles and B) replace Rosier. I typical don't blame 1 or 2 guys for a team failure but these guys aren't helping. They are hurting us MORE then the opposing team are. Rosier inability to throw and Feagles constantly kicking 25 yard punts. I honestly feel like we could throw in just about anyone and produce better offensive results but Richt will stick with Rosier after the backlash from the Pitt game. RICHT, most Canes fan understand Rosier sucks, BENCH HIM!
See this is my biggest problem with Richt. For a veteran coach he seems to lack attention to detail and we as a team lack proper technique. I know I already said this but I can't understand how he is a former SEC coach and yet the concept of field position goes over his head. We did NOTHING to help or fix our special team. ****, if anything the new kickoff NCAA rule may have improved our kickoff coverage more then our coaches did. He is very good doing the off the field stuff but when it comes to on the field we look like a poorly coached team. We just do. Other then the WRs and RB I don't trust anyone else's ability to coach and unfortunately for the WR and RB they have poor play caller calling the offense.
This is a Typical possession by Miami.
Miami receives the ball. Touchback
1 down hand-off to Homer gain of 2.
2nd down run to the outside game of 2.
3rd down pass play. Rosier overshoot WR
4th down Feagles punts a 25 yard punt opponent starts at their own 45 yard line.
