Not sure what op said but if he think he needs to apologize then good for him. As to our new president, this is football site and therefore we have our own ax to grind. If there is some medical site, I am sure its posters would have been unhappy if JJ had been named the new president and said something about medical school being important and that he planned to meet with its leaders as soon as they got off the golf course, sorry, I mean this afternoon.
As for me, this guy is just another dude who needs to fix his accent. He is now president of an American University and should sound like it. My wife is Cuban born, educated in the South(as in Southern USA). She speaks four languages without accent in any of them. She is just your basic cheeleader/model type. Given the uber resume of the good Doctor, I would expect him to at least master one or two without accent. Me, I barely speak one, but I am just a Southern bubba, not a great leftest leader of men and women. Okay, I guess I will not be giving this guy much of a chance. But like I said about Donna, he is just a hired hand.
