“I like all of the names that I’ve been coached by, most of the coaches — Coach [Greg] Schiano, Butch Davis, Coach [Rob Chudzinski, Coach [Mario] Cristobal,” Miami Hurricanes legend and current head coach at American Heritage Mike Rumph said on the Joe Rose Show. “I like Cristobal a lot. I saw what he’s done. I look at who recruits my school and how they recruit it. I haven’t seen Butch Davis recruit my school. I saw Butch Davis recruit me back in 1998… I’ve had a couple more really good recruits come by but [Cristobal] is one of the top ones.

“The Hurricanes need a coach, it’s gonna be a different type of coach where he can really grasp the community and he can come out and get some wins for sure because our fans are not going to tolerate losing and just have that chip on his shoulder as far as what he wants to do with his team and what he wants to do to get us back to where we used to be.”

For those that have not read it or listen to the interview, you should take the time out an listen to it. The interview is very telling about how things are done now in south Florida in terms recruiting both the players and the High School Coaches. Also one gets the feeling that Cristobal has been lobbying these local south Florida coaches to rally behind for $EC type of quid pro quo. An if that is the case Cristobal is playing a VERY DANGEROUS game with these Head Coaches because there aren't enough jobs for this type of Cronyism nor does Miami have that Bag Man that can smooth things over with the cronies that get left out.

Not to mention if Cristobal is passed over completely and doesn't take a job on Butch Davis's new staff/or whomever Miami hires then there will be a lot of resentment among the south Florida head coaches that lobbied for Cristobal, an those salty Coaches most definitely will hold Miami's feet to the fire any chance they get.

Butch will know how to handle it. Done it before.

Personally, I'd give the TRAITOR a 1 year contract (to quiet the *****es). Then fire him at the first opportunity.

Rumph appears to have an agenda here. Mario's working back channels to get his name thrown into the mix. Him getting hired will put the final nail in the Canes coffin.
 
Any high school coach basically begging for MC has an agenda. Get his players more offers and possibly get on staff.
 
Recruiting is only part of the equation, Mario can be this all world recruiter, but if he isn't developing these players, and can't adjust on the fly with a game plan when the plan is failing it will be an endless cycle of mediocre for us. I would take a HC who can out scheme and out coach the other team, while developing these kids to get every ounce of talent out of them.

Are these guys too dumb to realize you hafta win to land top recruits? If we weren't located where we are the program would be shut down already. I like Butch but im open to other names & Mario Cristobal is not one of them.

Mario is dangerous to UM. These boys expect to be paid like they are from Bama. We know Miami is going to do that. Mario will have to pony up the $$$ himself. ncaa will be right there to finish the job the blotched with nevin. This is banana republic Miami style.

I'm not worried about hard feelings if Butch gets the job. The players and parents will see 1st round NFL $$$$$ when they look at Butch not a bag of $20s Mario has been getting delivered from Bama bagmen. Getting an offer from Butch will be the new gold standard. No HC coach will inhibit Butch -- his presences raises the cost of admission or SEC and FSU. "Man, I gots Butch frigging Davis chasing that boy. Kid is seeing stars and don't want to coming to your place for OV. Give me something more to work with, man. They played the U thing on ESPN again this week."

Mike Rumph is an enemy of the program. The last thing anyone should be doing is turning up the volume on the microphone in his hand.
 
Golden had troubles adapting to SFL culture and dealing with the litany of bull**** that is the highschool recruiting scene, but that wasn't why he ultimately failed as a coach. This idea that we need a "Miami guy" to come in and scoop up all the recruits is retarded. It goes back to why the recruiting game is so murky down here - all these HS coaches and handlers think they own their players and that college coaches owe them something in return. It's the kid's future not Mike Rumph's.

Butch or any decent coach could come down here and recruit if they have an eye for talent and aren't completely inept at relating to kids.

If Christobal is hired Rumph will be part of tbe staffed.....very obvious from comments made...Rumph was selling cristobal to indirectly sell himself....
 
He has an ulterior motive: lobbying for DB coaching position under Mario.
 
Where was Rumph during the Sony, Torrence Gibson recruiting. You think you'd like to stock the cupboards if your gonna lobby for a job

Think about Nick Saban, his ego and how controlling he is.
Do you really think he would allow Mario to enact this guerrilla marketing campaign without his consent?

I don't think this is just Mario's strategy; the timing and intensity of the activity is just too coordinated to be coincidence or mere happenstance.
 
he wants to be mario's DB coach. there is like 3 south florida kids on bama. ridley and sbb were a package and they went to play for Saban. SBB even mentioned once that if butch was hired, miami would have a shot. Also, Amari was at bama before mario and they idiots always throw that out like mario scooped him.
