Michael Irvin gifts an RV to Mark Fletcher's Mom đź‘€

Yep. It’s a business expense for Irvin which is smart for him and still a great gift to the Fletcher family.
@TheOriginalCane I assume Fletcher will have to pay ordinary income tax on the RV as an “ascension to wealth”?

Not...necessarily...depends on the structure of the deal.

If it's the "compensation" for the appearances on the show, and the family gets to keep the RV at the end, then "yes".

But it could be structured that it's a lease and the production company retains ownership afterwards.

I lean to the first example, I'd imagine that Michael Irvin wants her to keep it after the show. But if he times the transfer of ownership for a year, the value would be lower, and she'd pick up less taxable income.

Oh, ****, it actually WOULD be better for the production company to own it for a year. 100% BONUS DEPRECIATION!
