Historic mistake. I get it. Worst thing I've ever experienced as a Hurricane fan. Done talking about it. Will never be done thinking about it. Moving on...
What's incredibly unfortunate about the end, and the offensive performance, was the defensive performance of the night. Ga Tech came in with a very productive passing offense and they were completely shut down. They had been averaging 467 ypg and 32 ppg. Possibly the best defensive performance of the season by Miami.
Drive 1: Punt 3 plays, 1 yard
Drive 2: Punt 3 plays, 6 yards
Drive 3: Punt 4 plays, 22 yards
Drive 4: INT 11 plays, 49 yards
Drive 5: Punt 3 plays, 3 yards
1st Half: Ga Tech had advanced the ball 81 yards in total, complete domination and shut out.
Drive 6: Punt 3 plays, -1 yard
Drive 7: TD 8 plays, 75 yards
Drive 8: TD 4 plays, 26 yards off INT
Drive 9: FG 4 plays, 6 yards off INT
Drive 10: INT 4 plays, 13 yards
Drive 11: Punt 3 plays, -5 yards
Drive 12: TD 4 plays, 74 yards
2nd Half: Up until you know, the thing happened, Ga Tech had advanced the ball 114 yards in the half. One offensive drive on their own that resulted in a TD. Two drives off turnovers that resulted in points but only totaled 32 yards combined. If you remove the last drive, that never should have happened, they would have ended up with 176 official yards. I don't know what else you could ask for from a defense.
It is a f***ing shame that this was wasted. But if these guys can somehow forgot about that game, which may take an absolute miracle, then they have something to build upon on defense.
