Miami vs. Pittsburgh: Preview, Odds & How to Watch

First and foremost, all wins are good wins, especially in the conference. UNC struggled with FSU as well. Early conference games are always tough as every team still has hope.
The elder statesmen showed their value. Reneau is a really good player just as he was at IU.

I watched Donaldson play a lot last year with Michigan. Tonight is who he is; an inconsistent scorer who really turns it on in close games, and especially late in close games. Yes I would love for him to be as aggressive all game as he is late in games, but that isn’t who he is, and I wrote the same thing before the season started. But Donaldson is a winner; at Auburn, at Michigan and will be this season at Miami.

Weird game full of like 3-4 huge runs by both teams. The bench was awful

Marcus loss was big. At least we get/got Dante back.

88 has been mostly disappointing for me. He’s way too streaky for a European prospect. 11 is borderline unplayable. Noam just doesn’t play enough for any sort of sample size. He seems to have good vision but Jai doesn’t seem to trust him. Maybe I’ve got that bit wrong.

The rest of the bench is practice filler. Although Laboy hit a couple of good looking 3s in garbage time last go

We can't shoot. Once teams figure that out, it's going to be tough to score in conference play. That said, tonight was a good comeback, salute to Coach Lucas for pressing the right buttons coming out of halftime.

FT shooting won the game tonight, without it, there's no way Miami could have won this ballgame. Pitt was bad from the charity stripe, Miami connected, those points mattered.

True outside threat is the Achilles heel of this team.... wish Coach Lucas had prioritized signing at least one legitimate 3pt threat...

.. come tourney time, we are going to run up against some minnow team that goes off from the 3pt line and we not have any answers ...

Agree. I think the step up in competition will expose shooting and quality depth. .500 in the Acc would be a success and good enough for tourney. Doubtful we can hang around long.

Showed resilience. Not many teams come back from a 28-8 blitz to win.

Got absolutely nothing from our bench at all. Given our long-range shooting issues, Malovec has to hit a few threes when he gets his 10 minutes on the court.

Some of you all just want to pretend that a staff can just roll out of bed and build a balanced team from scratch in one cycle. It’s going to take another class at a minimum before we have every hole plugged

Can win a lot of games being +7 on OREB, +11 from the free throw line, 4 less fouls than our opponent, and 9 more fastbreak points.

They were +6 on the 3 point margin, and we were +6 on the margin for points in the paint. While we had 3 more turnovers, both teams had 13 points off turnovers. Advantages Neutralized.

Each game is an absolute occasion with similarities yet an obvious presumption it will not be repeated. The score is the score.

Most games won't be against a bad team like Pitt. We won't necessarily have those rebound advantages vs a better team or a bigger team. We need more ball movement and better shooting from 3 and FT line if we want to win half or more of our ACC games.

We’ve played better teams than Pitt already, BYU and UF, and had less turnovers and more offensive rebounds than our opponent in both of those games.

Obviously our advantages won’t be the same every game and neither will our disadvantages. Our FT line shooting was great. If we shoot 77% on 22+ FTA, we’re cooking in the ACC.

Our three point shooting will be a weakness for the rest of the season. We already know this.

I just hope Jai is not one of those coaches who value athleticism over basketball skills (like shooting)! I mean, there HAD to be pure shooters out there in the Portal. But somehow, we came up empty on that. If the next haul still doesn't include a couple 3 point specialists ...

Over the years, Houston and Memphis State have epitomized the emphasis on athleticism. Even as they went to Final Fours where their bricklaying and inability to shoot Free Throws doomed them.

And we lost to the 2 good teams we've played so far. They competed for a half but then the better team prevailed. I don't expect much this season. They score 100 vs the cupcakes but will struggle through. Most of the acc schedule. 500 record would surprise me. We have no bench and no reliable consistent 3 pt shooters.

We were talking about certain advantages we had in this game; if they could translate against better teams.
We won't necessarily have those rebound advantages vs a better team or a bigger team.

Our schedule is our schedule. Can’t change that. We lost to the national champs who returned their starting front court and BYU who looks as good as any other team.

Beat our Big East & SEC opponents like we were supposed to; Chris Beard has a lot of wins under his belt; returned some players from his sweet sixteen squad. Georgetown has talent & age; w/ a coach in his 3rd year at the program. Those wins aren’t anything to sneeze at.

Putting together a whole new infrastructure isn’t easy on the fly. Guys are still getting used to playing with one another, and our best perimeter defender is out for the year.
