The 2014 US Open is starting next week! Of former Canes, Michael Russell is in the qualifying rounds this year in his attempt to play in his tenth US Open championship! Our most famous Canes have been very successful in the US Open in the past. Here's a quick look at their accomplishments!

Doris Hart is the most successful Cane in the history of the US Open. Hart won 35 Grand Slam titles during her career, tying her for 5th all-time. And during the 1940s and 50s, she won an amazing 11 US Open titles. She won the singles title in 1954 and 1955, the doubles title for four consecutive years from 1951 to 1954, and she won the mixed doubles title for five consecutive years from 1951 to 1955. In 1954, she pulled off the triple crown by winning the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles. She was also the singles finalist five times, doubles finalist nine times and the mixed doubles finalist twice. Hart is without doubt one of the greatest US Open champions of all time!

Gardnar Mulloy, the father of Hurricanes tennis, is the most successful male from Canes' history. During the 1940s and 50s, he won four US Open doubles titles. He was also the singles finalist in 1952, losing to Frank Sedgman. The US Open was the major where Mulloy recorded his best Grand Slam results.

Pancho Segura also had a successful career at the US Open, although he was never able to finally break through for a title. He reached the semifinals for four consecutive years from 1942 to 1945. He also was the finalist is the 1944 doubles final and the 1945 and 1947 mixed doubles finals.

In the Open era, Eddie Dibbs left his mark as a Cane in the US Open as well. He was ranked as high as number five in the world, won 22 tour titles and made three US Open quarterfinals in 1975, 1976 and 1979.

Good luck to future Canes as they attempt to break through into the pro ranks and leave their mark in Canes and US Open history!

Didn't know MR was a Cane! I've seen him live a few times, wish I had known. That's awesome. He's a fighter.

You missed Pieter Aldrich, who won the US Open mens doubles championships in 1990. Piet went to the U for two years before turning pro. (1984-1985)
