After a challenging 2024-25 season where Miami finished with a 7-24 record and head coach Jim Larranaga stepped down mid-season, the program is entering a period of significant change and rebuilding under new head coach Jai Lucas. Lucas a former Duke assistant coach, is tasked with re-energizing the team and preparing them for the 2025-26 season. The Hurricanes have been active in the transfer portal, securing several talented players, including guards Tre Donaldson and Tru Washington, forward Malik Reneau, and center Ernest Udeh Jr.

While the team faces the challenge of replacing key players who have departed, the flood of new talent, coupled with Lucas reputation for recruiting, has generated hope for the future. The focus is on improvement and development throughout the upcoming season, with the end goal of making the NCAA Tournament and competing for a championship.

However, the team's potential shouldn't be entirely dismissed. With several experienced player and young players joining the roster, the Hurricanes have the raw materials to surprise some people. The success of the players and the effectiveness of Jai Lucas coaching in developing a balanced and competitive squad. If the team can find it's pace and display significant improvement throughout the season, they could emerge as a dark horse in the ACC and potentially make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

it'll be interesting. I expect this group to get after it on defense. And hit the glass at both ends of the court. The opposite of last year. Those improvements alone should keep us in games we were blown out of last season.

Would've liked to have seen us add a true "go to" offensive force. I don't see that among the squad Coach Lucas has assembled. Maybe just not enough firepower this season when all is said and done.

I think we win 17+ games which would be an improvement and can't argue with that. I think Jai's future here is bright at Miami his ability to recruit at such a high level and we have a good squad also I think we add 2 more pieces which would help with depth.
