Despite his three-star ranking, Miami commit Jayvon Dawson has some of the highest upside of any 2027 recruit in the country.
The 6-foot-4, 220 pound Santaluces product made the short trip down to Coral Gables for his official visit with the Canes, spending time with a staff that's incredibly eager to develop his raw traits into a top round prospect.
I caught up with Dawson following his OV to discuss the staff’s development plan for him and why UM was the best option for the uber-athletic talent.
On what caught his eye during his visit:
“The brotherhood, they got such a good brotherhood over here. Coach [Taylor] is just showing me that he wants me to be a better player, he wants me to be a better man, better player, and better student.”
“Coach Cristobal, he's a great coach, he showed real interest in me.”
“From the coaches to the players, they show that they want you to be better in life.”
Expanding on the coaching staff:
“I already saw [coach Taylor’s] personality. He's a great person. He just wants me to do better as a man, so I feel like he's going to be a great coach and take me to the league."
“Cristobal, he has a great personality, like Cuban coffees and stuff like that. He's a good person in general, a good faithful man.”
On his scheme fit as a versatile athlete:
“So Coach Taylor said he's gonna teach me to play multiple positions: edge, JACK, tackle — just going to use my versatility the best I can.”
On spending time with Miami’s other commits:
“It was great having the team bond, having that brotherhood, just showing love to each other”
On who he spent time with on his visit:
“Probably Third [Scroggins], we both the same person in how we want to go to NFL. So we watched film together, did a little bit of workouts, went to the gym, because my goal is to go the NFL and take care of my family.”
