The Miami Hurricanes basketball squad took a major leap in the NET rankings from this past weekend.

Last weekend, the Hurricanes were ranked at No. 38 in the country. Now, after beating Ole Miss — which counts as a Quad 2 win, the Hurricanes moved into the Top 25 as they slot in at No. 25 in the country.

Jai Lucas and his squad proved they can compete with the top teams in the country. Even though they did drop the game to BYU and Florida, anyone who actually watched those games knows the Hurricanes weren’t awful. It was simple mistakes, like missed free throws that cost Miami.

Miami is legit about 10–15 free throws from being undefeated in both of those games. Jai Lucas has his team rolling, and they should finish out conference play at 11–2, especially with some bye games coming up.

Here’s the full rundown of the Top-25 teams in the newest NET rankings:
  1. Michigan
  2. Duke
  3. Iowa State
  4. Gonzaga
  5. Vanderbilt
  6. Arizona

Saw the UF game but missed the BYU game. Our boys looked a little sloppy more than just free throws. And they struggled at the boards with the Gators’ bigs. That said I think the talent is there. They just need more reps as a unit. The whole team just started playing together and it shows up against the better comp. Passing and positioning off just a little, can be fixed with more time together. I think we get stronger as the season goes on

UF loss isn't looking as good now but granted their losses have come at #5 UConn (by 5), at Cameron to #3 Duke (by 1), neutral site to TCU (by 4) and neutral site to #1 Arizona (by 6). Still a team I expect to compete for and potentially win the SEC.

BYU is ranked 10th in the country so that loss will continue to age well as they'll probably be a top 8-10 overall seed.

the good thing for us is, our team "should" gel more and more as the season goes on.... I'm praying, some serious FT work is being done in practice, and/or even changing their style... it's another area we hopefully can only get better in.... Our 2-3 3pt shooters establish themselves more and get the confidence to "let it rip"...

I said it after the game against them: I did not expect them to be good this year. They are lacking competent play in the backcourt.. specifically athleticism which is a must in the sec

Will give them kudos for being in those games against Duke and UConn though. Both on enemy turf

But I see them as a bubble team this year

Think you are way underrating the Gators. Barring injury to their top guys, they'll be just fine.

They've lost close to 3 top ten teams. They're certainly in the top group of the SEC

According to the Notre Dame AD, we have really good losses.
