Miami’s push in the 2027 class has put the Hurricanes in rare company. According to Rivals, Miami is among the top spenders in the country alongside Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Oregon.

The result has been one of the nation’s top 2027 classes. Mario Cristobal and his staff aren’t just chasing recruits anymore, they’re going toe-to-toe with the biggest brands in the sport and winning their share of battles.

Miami isn’t spending to win recruiting in July. The Hurricanes are investing in a roster they believe can contend for ACC championships and, ultimately, put the program back among college football’s powerhouses. Which they have proven to do in the last year, after going to the National Championship.

The Hurricanes have made recruiting a year-round priority, and it’s showing up in the 2027 cycle. Miami has landed several highly regarded prospects and remains in the mix for some of the nation’s biggest names, players like five-star cornerback Donte Wright, five-star quarterback Israel Abrams, five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear, and five-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant just to name a few have already committed. The program’s momentum on the trail has made Coral Gables a destination again for elite talent.

Being mentioned alongside programs like Texas A&M and Oregon says a lot about where Miami stands nationally. Just a few years ago, many questioned whether the Hurricanes could consistently recruit with the sport’s big names. Now, they’re being talked about in the same conversation as some of college football’s biggest spenders and top classes.

The pressure now shifts to keeping the class together and turning recruiting wins into victories on Saturdays. If the Hurricanes can do that, the investment being made in the 2027 class could end up being remembered as another major step in Miami’s climb back into national championship contention, but the main thing is do not lose these recruits.

 

How much money will the players be earning if the sport ends up imploding, or further stratifying to the pt that programs are forced to board up their entire athletic dept?

I believe the $100 MM - $1B spends in general infrastructure (and the institutional decisions to lever up to chase unsustainable TV deals) should be scrutinized well before player compensation gets put under the microscope. The pearl clutching didn't start when Saban got $10 MM/year and in-kind support from boosters in the form of Benz dealerships.

Some institutions will get over their skis and commit too many resources to stay in the game. That doesn't mean we should allow the parasites (university admins, conference execs, NCAA stuffed shirts, and elected officials) to target the only parties who actually have skin in this game.

That is true, but the non-governance model would actually end up being worse. The solution to corruption is more checks & balances; not less.

I agree with u to an extent, but this sounds like whataboutism & cutting off our nose to spite our face. Runaway inflation in all forms, whether it exists in coaching salaries, infrastructure spending, or player compensation, is putting CFB on a unsustainable trajectory & has to be addressed one way or another. Also, player compensation is growing at the fastest rate YoY, which is why there might be uproar towards that currently, because it has the potential to be more detrimental to the sport long term.

The very nature of sports labor economics is such that there is always going to be a certain degree of parasitism towards the players in order to maintain the integrity & competitive balance of the league. I suppose in an ideal world the players could have equal power & leverage but thats just not realistic. The NFL is by all accounts exploitative towards the players but what is the end result of that exploitation? It is still the most successful, highest revenue generating, competitive, sports league on planet Earth. At the end of the day the only thing that really matters, is what is in the best interest of the sport long term; not trying to placate the players, coaches, school administrators, or governing officials. The game itself should always be held in the highest regard, & above everything else. Too often posters on this forum are focusing on all of the wrong things, & are completely missing the forest for the trees.

 

Honest question here: how in the **** does Rivals know how much Miami is spending in NIL? As a private university, I figure money doesn't have to be disclosed, right? As for NIL deals outside of the school, those are also private as well and don't generally have to be reported. I'm positive we're spending well on recruits and transfers and keeping the roster intact, but still…

They estimate it by the market value of the players we have.

 

Miami has money, but we ain’t spending like OSU, Tex, Oregon, ATM..

ATM is over 20 mill on this class from what I’ve seen. The Miami effect. The teams so ****ed from what we did to them last year, they are trying to spend so it never happens again. Specifically OSU, ND, ATM.

That’s what makes our team even more impressive. We are identifying the right guys high ranked and lower ranked. AND developing. Proof is in the pudding.

Let’s see if A&M is ready to spend $20M in 2028, 2029 and 2030, plus give retention raises to the $20M class of 2027. In a few years they could find themselves in a position of having to pay nine figures annually to maintain their desired level of talent.

They’ve shown before that they’ve had the willingness to spend big on one class. They seemingly weren’t willing to do it on an annual basis.

Sam passed away before all the charges came to light. Back then most likely a decent up front money + spending $$$ and off campus housing as well.. believe Sam’s involvement was covered in one of books on Wooden
