Didn't mean to re-hash this but the words are straight from him - with Shaq and Pinck commenting as well. I hope he gets the opportunity to redshirt both for the team and especially for himself.

Idk what Miami’s policies are or how they handle the RS processes. But it’s usually decided during requirement process. After it’s w two way street. Thinking back we needed that body

I mean I would have sat him down and told him... your body isn’t right... you’ve got pink and Shaq in front of you and we just essentially switched to a 4-2-5 defense with striker
We’d love to stagger you so you can have a chance at running the mike....

no matter what if something happened where you needed him you could have burned the shirt whenever.... it’s not like he’s removed from the team

Possibly but he would've likely gotten rotational snaps and played on ST's this year. He just made the right decision to come back next year healthy with a chance to start.

Yea but we ain’t switch scheme when he was a freshman/sophomore..

I hope I am wrong. How does a SENIOR coming back that cannot even get snaps to give Shaq and Pinckney a rest make sense? He is not hurt. Maybe he starts great but what if he is again a back up. His scholarship could be used to build the roster. This was not a coaching decision.

The 4 game redshirt rule probably wasn’t in play either back then too

lol oh his sophomore year when we won 10 game and unveiled the striker position with Derrick smith and Finley?

switching to the 4-2-5 was the reason we went from 3rd and Diaz Mcclouds frosh year to a sophomore year that had us a consensus top 5 defense and one of the best on 3rd down defense

If he can't get playing time this year I don't know why he would be getting playing time next year.

What baffles me is, why did the coaches not think of this plan and approach Zach? Why did it take a 21 year old to figure out a win-win for both the player and the team. Blows my mind. I guess I never thought of it either, but chit, I am not a head coach or DC.

Its the same scheme. They just used him more like a traditional LB as a freshmen. His sophmore year he was basically playing striker. Look how much they had him out in space trying to cover.

Because a player can take that the wrong way and transfer out, it happens all the time

We are currently 12-13 players under the scholarship limit. McCloud made the best choice for himself and quite honestly for our LB depth chart next season.

Nah not really..we really didn’t use it that much..at least not as much as we do now..Zac was a starter his sophomore year..wasn’t until last year when we started to heavily implement that position on 1st 2nd and 3rd downs..it’s a nickel 4-3 with a
