Kid is explosive.

I like the pickup. But he's most likely going to need a lot of coaching before he can contribute at LB.

I watched 5 minutes of his highlights, and all were pass rush or run stopping plays. I didn't see any where he dropped into coverage. McCloud, Wilder and Joyner were all pass rushing specialists, super raw at LB. And we see it takes at least a couple years for those guys to transition. Coaches just need to make sure Mathis is paired with an LB (or two) in the class who brings immediate coverage experience and is ready to contribute early, given our depth issues.

Shaq Quarterman and Mike Pinckney also didn’t cover for **** in high school. The only difference is that in Quarterman’s film he was killing dudes.

^ I don't recall that, but I don't doubt you. For some reason, I remember thinking both Shaq and Pinckney moved laterally really well in their highlights. Don't have time to go back and check right now. Either way, this kid looks good, just raw.
