Sometimes it’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem with regards to a lack of run game hurting the quarterback, but Mateer himself hasn’t been as strong of a runner as he consistently was at Washington State. Had good rushing games pre and post injury at OU, ran well against Mizzou, Michigan and Tennessee, but none this year so far.Not making excuses because he’s been absolutely atrocious but I think that injury ****ed him up permanently. Hasn’t been the same since.
One thing I peeped about Mateer (i wanted him 1st before Beck and Mendoza in that order lol; I’m saying I recognized this now not then) is that he didn’t throw interceptions against most of his bad G6 opponents, but did against the 7+ win ones as well as the couple of p4 opponents he played. Boise State was really the only team to contain his scrambles / designed runs; and he ran for nearly 200 yards against a bad ‘24 TT defense.
Mobility is ****-near a prerequisite to be a quarterback nowadays; however, like in a basketball game, you can’t win championships with your star player having to make all the shots and all the passes; even if they need to be able to do a mix of both.
AGAINST NEW MEXICO
AGAINST MICHIGAN
Hard to win games without establishing the run.
