Mario is the best talent evaluator we've had since Butch.

Mario was an A+ hire in every aspect except making decisions on Saturdays during gametime. That was really the only negative at the time and he's certainly evolved in that area.

He was always the 'right' hire.

Last night, they crushed that last offensive drive, decision-wise. 1st down run, TO, 2nd down pass, leaving the TO on the table. 3rd down, they could have run or passed with that TO in the bag.

transfer portal changed the game (and give some props to Manny for being very good at that on the front end).

our hit rate on freshmen has definitely improved year over year under mario though.

He had his rough patches, even this season. But he shows he can change and adapt and that is huge and why we are here right now. He seems to be getting. Better on game day management as well. The time outs have been great in the CFP.

We’re also still early in terms of recruiting in his tenure. His first full class are only 3rd year guys. Arrow is pointing up.

Portal hits this year were insane, Thomas and Scott alone + all the others. Be consistent in that area and we’ll be fine going forward.

MARIO IS A GREAT RECRUITER BECAUSE HE LIVED IN THE TIME OF PROGRAM SUCCESS AND KNOWS WHAT TYPE OF PLAYER HE NEEDS TO MAKE IT WORK…

I’ve always been a Mario stan, but he’s proving that he’s one of the best coaches in the game for the NIL era. He knows the formula and is relentless. As I mentioned a while back in the coaching thread, virtually every college program would take him tomorrow. But fortunately for us, he only wanrs to be at the []_[].

Mario is a ferocious and elite recruiter. As good as they come.
But what Butch did at UM was on a different stratosphere. In five years he took over a program dealing with 47 scholarship deficit, reeling from poor mismanagement in the athletic department and from previous coaching staff and flipped it to a squad two-deep in NFL talent.
Of course, different era - apples and oranges.
But I would go Butch and eternally grateful to him and Mario.

We don't condense and get into heavy sets in shorter yardage and run it every time anymore. Refreshing

Butch is that dude and built something amazing when UM needed him the most.

Maybe the bcs picking FSU really got butch mad at the college game and he choose the NFL ,but knowing U got a team that potentially can make it to the national stage 3 times in a row will always have me at why?????

The word developer should be in there some where.

Mike Leach used to preach that coaches are first and foremost teachers and molders of young men, that there was a pedagogy of college football.

I am not doubting his eye for talent, but it will be hard to parse it out because of how much impact his heart, social IQ, and work ethic has on these young men.

Your comment that Mario is the nest talent evaluator since Butch is objectively correct. He absolutely is.
And like Butch, notice that he is bringing in people who are not only goof athletes and players, but also love to play the game. There are most definitively some players in college and even the NFL who do not love the game. But they are such physical freaks that they are goods anyways.

But the very best, at anything, are not only great at it, but they love it. Those are the players Butch brought in, and who Mario looks for. I’m sure he learned this from Butch.
