I know it's been talked about over and over, but you can see how he tore apart the team that was and created the beast the U has become.

It took some time and some bad losses, but he has slowly rid the team of entitled, soft players. It's not always the shiny 5 stars that make a team. It's finding talented players with high upside and character. Players that really want it and hate to lose. Look at the players living in the dorms to work extra. That's what the program needed.

He has this team 2 steps away from #6. They are all bought in and want it so bad. You can feel it.

It's been a long 20+ years of mediocrity ..... those days are over.

We also have plenty of other four stars and some high three stars.

I know - but you have to find the right players with talent. How many high 4 and 5 stars in the past came here and then were mid because they didn't put in the work.

"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard"

And so many mopes on here continually downplayed or underestimated the importance of culture. When Mario took over in ‘22, even he underestimated the level of rot in this program. Only after losing to MTSU did he realize how bad things were and how extreme he needed to be in eradicating the husk of a program that was standing at the time.

He did it the right way too!!

Without going through the annals of 247 and Rivals, I don’t know. I do know that we didn’t get very many to begin with, but we do now; which was my point. The “shiny five star” comments get old because while I understand what you’re saying, the statistics have shown over time a direct correlation to number of five stars and high fours to winning.
You do get credit for not saying “Ed Reed was a two star.” That’s the comment that is like a cattle prod to me.

Not to be a debbie downer, but winning changes the culture as well….
You can win without the culture being right or ideal but it will definitely catch up to you.

It could be a “what came first the chicken or the egg conversation?”… and it’s happened to us in the past. “Gotten used to winning… still doing it but things are trending downward…” Then in one season you went from 10-2… or 9-3 to 7-5… then 6-6.

The culture has to be right to be sustainable though.

Interesting that most of our blue-chip 5-star guys are in the trenches. (where games are won) You can see Mario's huge emphasis on line play with the way he recruits and it's paying off on game days. We are far more physical than anybody we play.

That was a sub-plot to my comments. My 50-something year old fat *** could run for yards behind this OL. I mean I'm not gaining more than 10 yards (ever), but I'm sure you get my point.

Pretty sure that was the starting point where he became more aggressive in making changes.

What should be done eventually must be done immediately.

And then you have guys playing like 5 stars. If I am a GM, I am looking real close at drafting Scott late 1st round.
