Given all the "noise in the system" about Diaz, Searels, and even Richt, having been fired at one time of another (I am guilty, because I was unsure about Diaz), I thought I'd remind us all that some of the most successful people on the planet been fired at one time or another. ****, I've been fired before, and I'm better now than I've ever been. I know tons of brilliant/successful people that were fired before, and I can guarantee you there are many successful people that post on this board that have been fired before in their careers. **** happens!
Granted, some people are fired for sheer incompetence, so I won't discount that, but other times it's as simple as the market changing, or you're a bad fit, it's bad timing, or sometimes you might be the victim of circumstances (regime change or bad talent around you). For example, if you bought a great house in 2005 for $1.3M, and in 2009 it was worth $700K, you were a victim of bad timing and market forces. Still a great house in a great neighborhood, right? But you're out of $600K, so the house was "fired", so to speak.
In the case of Richt, Searles and Diaz, the market either changed (Richt), it was a bad fit, bad timing (Searles at VT), or bad circumstances (Diaz/Searles at Texas)
So with that said, here is a list of great/successful people that were fired at one time of another (The list is too long to even name all):
Oprah Winfrey (was told she was unfit for TV)
Walt Disney (was told he lacked imagination and had no good ideas)
Steve Jobs (fired from Apple in his first go round)
Mark Cuban
Arthur Blank (before hitting big with Home Depot)
Bill Belichik (Fired from the Browns)
I'm not the kind of man that will give blind trust to anyone, but sometimes it takes act II or III to hit pay-dirt, so I am going to keep an open mind and trust that Richt knows what he's doing. He seems to have taken his time to put together a hungry staff that will not only mesh and work well together, but is competent and capable of implementing his vision.
