They are too soft. See below as I will try and breakdown a great coach and a **** coach:

1--First is Performance
Great Coach--A great coach will never make excuses for a poor performance, they call it like it is. Usually, a great coach will even find fault in a good performance that needs corrected.
****** Coach--Allows mistakes, "everyone's going to make mistakes". Player has one good game and is praised only to fvck up the next game because head swells. You must perform to play minutes, no excuses. Will do/say whatever it takes to try and mask the real problems with performance.

2--Next is Discipline.
Great Coach--Play poorly, no matter how big the game/moment/player, you sit down for a bit, maybe rest of the game. Next man up, same for him and so on until someone performs. Also, if you don't perform on Sat., then Monday you better count on a puke day from running for all the fvck ups and then you can come to practice with the team.
****** Coach--Play poorly, coach worries next man up cannot do his job so continues to play more senior player out of fear. Next man up never gets his chance to shine. No penalties on Monday. Weak.

3--Next is Recruiting.
Great Coach--Mom and Pop, I can't tell you if your 5* will ever play here, that is up to him. I will allow him to come to said University, but it is up to him if he plays. He must work hard, put in the time and perform to play. End of story.
****** Coach--We have a need and your son will get plenty of playing time if he comes to said University. Then don't play the kid (LT) and you look like an ******* and player never develops.

4--Lastly is the type of kid you recruit.
Great Coach--Recruits a kid that has a strong discipline about him already, probably learned from Mom/Pop. Good work ethic, good attitude and understands he has to play his *** off to break the top 2 on depth chart. Also a decent athlete, usually.
****** Coach--Good Athlete, Mom/Pop just want kid to play, but not too concerned about discipline. Just get him to NFL (prolly not happening). Preaches history and staff and forgets that the kids attitude and work ethic gets them to the NFL and some coaching/talent. Take HS talent over work ethic/character and kids never develop. Entitled.

In summary, there is probably not a parent that disagrees with Saban's philosophy on any of the points above. How about parents of kids that Manny coaches? Manny is not there to be a friend to these players. His job is to win football games, build men, put as many players in the NFL as possible and graduate players.
Stop being a friend and start being a Great Coach, probably too late for this, but if he were to follow, he would probably be a better coach. Also needs to understand football, Ha!
